NMS HOT POST 2022/05/5

I roam the galaxies for scenic outlooks, build little observatory bases on them, and upload them to the game servers for travellers to find. This must be my favourite one so far. Never seen blue volcanoes in 200+ hours!

New player here, HOLY SHIT

Finished Subnautica Below Zero yesterday and me and my friend were quite disappointed with it after the amazing original. Decided to get No Man’s Sky after watching the famous video about it.

I am just building my base (on the 2nd planet where it gives you the building tutorial) after returning from the first space station, have this feeling at the back of my mind how the game will turn into an rng grind (maybe I misinterpreted all the vendors and npcs at the station but it felt like all of them had rng stuff for sale with hidden stats until you open it).

But then outta fucking nowhere a HUGE ASS LEVIATHAN DRAGON WORM THING bursts out of the ground, hoops over my base and digs back in like nobody’s business.

WHAT THE FUCK?!? THIS GAME IS GONNA BE SO GOOD.

Base building mechanics

I wish I could say I’m a good builder, but the reality is that I have no talent whatsoever. Just trying my best. I watched tutorials online and I gathered the basics, but I have a few questions on the matter:

  • I know that manipulating the terrain by digging is counter-productive bc it grows back. Does this apply to the terrain flattener too? If so, what’s the point of having a tool so obviously designed to make flat space for your base?

  • Sometimes when I put down a prefab, it autonomously delete portions of terrain that would clip into it. In this case, does it grow back regardless?

  • What about natural resources (rocks and plants)? Do they grow back? I ask because every tutorial says if you want to build a base in a cave you better find a natural cave… But natural caves are filled with stalagmites and cave pumpkins. I don’t know if I can safely build over those.

  • Let’s say I want to connect two parts of my base, but in the middle there’s a mountain. I carve a large hole in the mountain and place a prefab corridor or passage tube to connect the two parts. After a while, the terrain I carved comes back. Does it clip inside the corridor I placed preventing me to traverse it or does it just “surround” my pieces leaving the space inside empty?

  • Last… Is there an effective way/trick to snap different base styles pieces together? I’m building with prefab and cubic rooms, but I can’t for the life of me make a pathway OUTSIDE to connect different buildings, bacause not a single floor present in the game snaps with the prefab (again, I’m talking about the exterior)

Thanks!

I've only hopped galaxies once. Does one to recollect glyphs?

A few years ago I finished a few of the storylines (I’m pretty sure that Atlas and I came to an agreement) and I ended up with all 16 glyphs then. I travelled to the 2nd galaxy, found my ship, then logged off. Haven’t been back to that save since. If I logged in would I have to get 16 new glyphs? Like, I think the symbols are all the same but would I have to collect them again?

New Player Here. Got gifted ~250 million Units in the Anomaly on my first visit to it. Wondering wha...

The title is what happened. I discovered the anomaly, was meeting all of the iterations, and then I saw some fellow Travelers and I started using finger gun emotes and jumping around. One of them said some stuff in Cyrillic that I didn’t understand and then filled my inventory with items that were worth more than 1000x my total earnings at that point.

I’ve played enough games like this to know that the struggle to survive and build your own equipment and base is kind of the point. So I haven’t sold anything — I just put it all in storage and have been playing as if I didn’t have it. Figured I would ask you all if you have any advice.

Is there anything you WOULD recommend spending it on? Maybe an annoying and non-immersive part of the new player experience that I can circumvent with a Scrooge McDuck swimming pool of money?
