Suggestion: If a distressed ship needs a part we don’t have but we have the materials for, give us the option to craft it before turning down assistance.
Title more or less sums it up. Part of me dies a little on the inside when I run into a pilot in distress during my journey through space and all they need is a piece of Metallic Plating or an Antimatter Housing to fix their ship, but I am forced to decline to assist like a jerk just because I prefer to store such components as bulk quantities of their base materials rather than craft them in advance and waste inventory space.
