OMG… I escaped this rock!

OMG... I escaped this rock!

So I'm doing Expedition 7, which is permadeath (decidedly not my thing), and I got to the second anchor point's memory section, which happens to be close to a giant plateau on top of super steep cliffs. I'm thinking the jetpack trick will get me right back up to my ship, so I follow the signal off the side of the cliff, interact with the grave and escape some sentinels feeling fine and and dandy, and then I go to do the jetpack trick and…. it doesn't work. I keep getting these weird hitches, and then I'd run out of fuel and fall. I try to summon my ship, and it says I need 125% fuel to call it, which isn't even possible. I attempt to corkscrew my way through the mountain, but there is too much of it that can't be manipulated. I cut notches into the side, but they are too shallow, and I keep falling off because the jetpack won't stay still.

It was getting late, so I decided I'd better build a base just in case. There are raging firestorms on this planet, and I wasn't going to solve the problem in that session. At that point, I asked you guys for help. I named my base "Help Me Build a Teleporter Please!." One of you guys suggested manipulating terrain on the side of the mountain, but the jetpack was too finicky, and I couldn't do this very well. I don't have plans for a landing pad, so that wouldn't work. All other bases and stations were more than 3 hours away. I have probably two thirds of this expedition done, and I didn't want to lose all that progress!!

So what happened? I built floors and walls up most of the side of the mountain and got more than halfway up. I summoned the Minotaur every so often to brave the storms… and then I fell. My jetpack and rocket boots were damaged and I didn't have the materials to fix the rocket boots. Undeterred, I continued my construction project but noticed that my jetpack was functioning normally and I wasn't getting some of the weird hitches I was getting before. I went to the top of my scaffold and thought to try the jetpack trick one more time, and it worked!!! I gloriously jetted to the top of the mountain and found my ship. I got out of there as fast my little solar sails would take me. It was the god**** rocket boots glitching out that caused all of these issues. I made it though! Hopefully I can finish up the other milestones a bit more painlessly and get my frigate.

I think NMS is overdoing random ships

Don’t get me wrong – seeing action and life in certain places is great – but it is way too frequent and more importantly, it seems way too random. You discover an uncivilized planet at the edge of the system with a few relics from another era. You want to build your base and discover what is there, but every 2 minutes some spaceships fly around close to the surface… doing what exactly?

I would love it if planets and systems had more meaningful parameters for population/traffic density (for example, there is a huge trading platform, so more ships are flying around). But I also like to discover planets that have not been discovered, where you can have your own “edge of the universe” feeling. It is the same with the frequency of pirate ships or massive freighter spawns when you are in outer space…

it feels like the developers were afraid that the game would feel too empty and as a response just let everything randomly spawn everywhere all the time… Perhaps others like this, but for me, it is killing the immersion
