NMS HOT POST 2024/01/1

I guess I’m a ship hunter now.

As stated in a post earlier this week, I play NMS cyclically. A year on, 6 months to a year off…

I just hopper back in and I LOVE some of the changes and updates since I last played.

Particularly, I love that I can have sentinel ships to match my sentinel freighter. I find the Interceptor class ship so awesome that, after I found one I loved enough to make my main ship, I still just enjoy finding them to see the cool combos out there.

So, I suppose my new main activiy is finding interceptor ships and posting them on NMSGE.

Does anyone have tips for finding these faster?

I've been warping to dissonant systems, using the polyphonic core, and hoping to find Autophage camps with locators. However, tonight I've been to a dozen Autophage signals and they're all exosuit pods or regional waypoints.

Is it just luck of the draw, or is there a way to find camps with ship locators specifically?

Are you new player looking for some tips to get you started? Are you a veteran player with some advi...

Here’s some of the FAQ suggestions we received in our previous FAQ thread. Keep in mind that these are opinions from some of our valued OP’s and you may agree or disagree with some of these. We just ask that everyone remains respectful when replying to this thread and we look forward to your contribution! NMSTG Mod Team

You can also drop a quick tip!

Tip #1: Always try to be doing multiple things. Pick up the portable refiner so you can refine something from your inventory while exploring and mining.

Tip #2: Avoid multiplayer until unlocking the anomaly, can be stranded if not.

Tip #3: Exotic worlds only have 1 fauna so it’s easy to scan all of them.

Tip #4: Need glyphs? All 16 are on one planet here

Q- “I was on the Anomaly and a bunch of expensive stuff showed up in my inventory. What do I do with it? A:” Congrats! Another player has bestowed you with a gift. Most likely it is an item to sell for some quick and easy cash. Usually the item description will tell you what it is used for.

Q: “Help, I claimed a broken ship and now I can’t find my starter ship! Is it gone forever?” A:” If you merely selected to “claim” the broken ship and not “swap” it, then your old ship is still around. If you left it with launch fuel in the tank, you can summon it with the quick-menu. If it does not have fuel, it can be summoned on the Anomaly (once you unlock it), your freighter (once you acquire one).

Q- “Are crashed ships worth repairing?” A-” Unless it is an exotic, no. Scrap the ship at the space station, sell the items it gives you, and use those units to buy a better, working version of a ship in that system.

Q- “Any advice for new players?” A-“For new players, make sure you read the guide in-game. It’s an excellent beginner’s guide for traveling, learning about the alien races, building, and etc. Take a look over the catalogue of items too. Also, I’d strongly suggest mining a massive amount of carbon, oxygen, and sodium. These three items will be some of your most used and critical items in the game

I just accidentally deleted my main save on Xbox and wasn't able to recover it with cloud. F in chat...

I just started a few weeks ago and had about 70 hours in. I know it’s not a ton but I was very invested in the region I started, exploring all of the systems around me and building up my base and wealth. I had a few adorable pets I loved, a coupe S class ships nearly fully upgraded, my exosuit was almost maxed out, I got a free S class freighter, I had about 300m saved.

I was playing with a permadeath save to see what it was like and after experimenting I decided I wanted to try one with serious effort, so I backed out and immediately deleted the second save file thinking they were put in order and not by most recent. My heart sank and I exited the game immediately, deleted local save data and restarted, but it was still gone.

Just needed to share my devastation.

On the bright side my girl just started, so I’m gonna start fresh with her. I can apply what I learned to try and help it not be as confusing for us in the beginning 🙂

Please explain Voltaic Staff Spawning in 2024.

I’ve been researching staff colors and classes, but it seems a lot of the information I’m finding may be outdated, or I’m just not understanding it correctly. I’ve read that the staff head determines the build, but if I mark a staff terminal for future use, IE. I want to come back when I free up inventory space, I can’t seem to build the same staff again.

Here’s my scenario. I was exploring autophage camps, and found a particular staff color combo I liked. I dropped a save beacon, jumped up to the Anomaly to disassemble an A class MT I wanted to break down rather than exchange away. I then returned to the camp to claim my shiny new staff, but I can’t recreate the build!

In actual fact, this camp had two staff builds I wanted. One was color specific, and the other had a supercharged slot layout I wanted. I cannot recreate either.

For the record, I play on GOG. Do the staff builds vary from planet to planet like regular multi tool cabinets do?

Setting Up Frigate Missions

I honestly don’t know if I’m wasting my time crafting frigate upgrades.

I select frigates that match the mission type, making sure to have a 5-star rating. Most of my ships are S-class now. I add 3 frigate upgrades to each mission (also matching them to the mission type). I have several freighter upgrades that help with various things.

I genuinely don’t know if I’m getting better returns by including the frigate upgrades or not. I left them off yesterday and I actually got more stuff.

I just wonder what’s the best way to maximize the success of frigate missions.
