Does the worth in units of a starship tell us how good it is?

I just got my second Sentinel ship in hopes of selling it, but saw it was a few millions worth more than the one I currently use. The one I use is a B-Class, the one i intended to sell is a C-Class. This is why I got confused. I thought that in this game, higher price = higher performance.

So, is it kind of random how expensive things are, or is it still heavily based on performance?
