NMS HOT POST 2021/11/27

we need a bugfix update

I love this game to death, but almost every post here is “haha this bug” or “oh no this bug”. I know it’s a big game, but if there’s one thing that dampens the experience it’s the tons of minor and major bugs that sometimes take years to get patched. I think we should have an update entirely dedicated to fixing existing bugs and improving the general stability of the game. your thoughts?

Discovered a way to speed up crafting significantly

Discovered a way to speed up crafting significantly

Don’t know why I never saw this before. Likely because I didn’t pay attention to patch notes since 2016.

But apparently they added the option to craft more than one item qty at a time. Had no idea this was a thing until I pressed the L1 bumper out of frustration only to see the UI do exactly what I wished it would.

PSA to everyone else! You can craft stacks of stuff now using the R1/L1 triggers.

Now if I can only figure out how to get my Phototonix Core module to my Switch save.

The Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm while it lasts

Now that the final optional milestone is unlocked and patch 4.52 unbroke the expedition, the Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm until it ends. You can easily get 6000 quicksilver in an hour or less. I was able to finish in 45 minutes by doing the following steps to avoid unnecessary backtracking and moving around.

  1. Immediately scan six plants to get the Exobotany milestone and install the scanner upgrade. Scan as many fauna as you can see and various plants and minerals (focus on whatever your scanner upgrade is giving you a bonus for). In total, you need ~135K units to start for microprocessors and eventually another 250K to 300K for wiring looms.
  2. Find your ship and repair it, collecting necessary resources along the way. Take off and head to the nearest ice planet. The ice planets have more things to scan compared to the other planets. Scan as many fauna as you can to try and get the Life In All Its Forms milestone and the second scanner upgrade.
  3. Build your base to finish the next milestone and refine some chromatic metal from the copper you received.
  4. Somewhere between the starting planet and your base planet, repair all but one each of the broken starship and multitool slots to get the Scavenger milestone. You will need the nanites in a minute. The magnetic ferrite and silver are the easiest ones to skip fixing since they are the hardest/most time consuming to get.
  5. Before heading to the space station, install the hyperdrive and build one warp cell. Doing this while at your base ensures you have enough resources without having to backtrack.
  6. Head to the space station and buy the microprocessors to finish the hyperdrive. While you’re here, buy 3 C-class hyperdrive upgrades (buy, save, reload) with the nanites from the Scanveger milestone. These will give you enough range to make every warp except the last one in a single go.
  7. Go to Rendezvous 1-4 and get both the normal and optional milestones, keeping in mind the amount of units you need for wiring looms as you’re scanning.
  8. Somewhere between Rendezvous 1 and 4, you need to find a Traveler grave, get the Indium Drive plans, and install it. The earliest you can do this is on the Rendezvous 1 space station. If you pick the correct option when talking to the Traveler, you should get enough nanites to ask where their grave is (reload if you pick the wrong option). Alternately, if you go into the Anomaly with the milestone selected, you can ask Polo where to find a Traveler.
  9. Travel to Rendezvous 5 and finish the last two milestones. At this point, you should have 6000 quicksilver. Technically, you could finish the full set of milestones to get another 4000 or so quicksilver, but if all you want is the quicksilver it is much faster to just start a new save and go again.
  10. Go to the Anomaly and buy whatever you want from the quicksilver vendor. These items can then be claimed on any other save you want.

I'm a player since launch. 1000 hour save, done it all. I do not understand the anger at all.

I’ve put in 15 hours or so into this latest patch and I have to tell you, it’s mildly annoying at best. Certainly not worth all the hate and nonsense. Two major things were noticeable to me in this patch. My jetpack fuel was definitely nerfed into the dirt and my ships were all jacked up.

I fixed my exosuit slots and aside from the jetpack fuel it doesn’t feel any different to me. I like the fall damage breaking stuff, its a neat little survival thing they added. I think I can live without being able to almost jet pack into space anymore.

Once I got my main ship reorganized the only bummer is my warp range was cut in half. My damage output went from killing stuff in 4 seconds….to killing stuff in 10 seconds. Hardly a difference. The warp distance nerf might actually make me work on my freighter finally and use it for travel. Not that bad. Since I’ve been living in the same neighborhood for 2 years I’m okay with losing 1500 light years off my max.

Multi tools are crazy buffed now since you can basically outfit one with everything and as far as damage output goes…they still shred everything. Not seeing an issue there. On foot combat being half of the reason you even min max mods anyway has remained unchanged in my opinion.

Basically we got easily the craziest buff to inventory space since launch and all it cost was a bit of jetpack fuel and warp distance….is that really worth all this anger? Also I’ve been here since launch and I see this as a new beginning. I think it’s easy to assume an overhaul on upgrades is probably in the works. Give it a minute. Geez.

Black hole jumping to the centre of the Galaxy - a few things I found last night.

Black hole jumping to the centre of the Galaxy - a few things I found last night.

As the title mentions, I’m currently trying to make my way to the centre of my 2nd galaxy – Hilbert Dimension. I want to do this as I reset the simulation on the main quest and it took me here. Anyway, here are a couple of things I (and maybe you?) have found interesting along the way.

  1. First time I’ve seen this particular anomaly.
  2. My first volcanic eruption.
  3. An unclaimed paradise planet if anyone wants to claim it? (I already have a paradise base in Hilbert, so I did not stop by.)

4+5. This was one of the models outside the multitool upgrade specialist in a space station. Has anyone seen that helmet before? I don’t think I have it, but I think I want it.

Yesterday, I also found my first already discovered system in Hilbert, it contained a black hole so I used it and I came out in another system also discovered by the same person. I didn’t realise black holes had a set path, I thought they were random.

So easy to lose time with this game!!

A bit of an anomaly

My first live volcano

Paradise Planet – up for grabs

What is this helmet?

Where can I get this helmet?

Pirate Freighter friends, let's talk about what we're inheriting here...

So, aside from lighting that’s way too Klingon (clearly these pirates are Star Trek fans), I’m wondering if anyone’s taken a space walk to check things out. I did. And I found 3 armed anti-freighter torpedoes under the main bridge and hangar. You know, where our entire base is. It’s sitting on top of a massive cache of mass destruction. Booby trap for the interloper who dares to force them into submission? Or a smart move, and if the latter, where’s the detonator? Who has the launch codes? Are they still on board? Let’s figure this out. And while we’re at it, figure out how to get the gun turrets on this mighty vessel to actually do something in a fire fight…

Note: no regrets. I had come to loathe the star destroyer-lite freighter that used to be the coolest thing in space. It felt good to make a huge change like this, and docking is considerably easier and more enjoyable now. But those torpedoes… damn. Sense of unease intensifies.

Useful Tip for escaping Sentinel ships

If you’re in space and want to escape sentinal interceptors without fighting them, and you’re past the anomaly part of the story, you can summon the anomaly and jump inside, and it will remove your wanted rating.

Space stations work too, but depending on how far away they are, it can be a pain with a disabled pulse drive.

I figured this one out a few weeks ago, and I use it all the time if I’m not in the mood for a prolonged sentinal space fight.

How did you make your first billion units?

I started playing this game last Christmas and it took awhile for me to get the hang of it. Eventually I found myself drawn to Gravitinos and started farming them exploring between harvests (mostly looking for silver). I learned base building this way and made my first billion units. I know making money isn’t the point of the game but it felt like an accomplishment for me and I was curious how everyone else made their first billion?
