✔ Verified base build limit, all platforms: 16k

Some time ago, when I was relatively new to the game, I was happily building along on my PC and received a “Cannot build – Construction limit reached” notice on the screen, unable to place more parts. This ended up spiraling into a large effort to understand base-building dynamics in the game, using save editors and some scripting. I found, without question, that the base building limit was 16,000 base parts, spread across all claimed base computers and your freighter base. I posted my findings here on reddit and eventually posted my script on github for others to use.

Since that time, I've seen some folks continue to share a different number of maximum base parts – 20k is the common number – and I've tried to share real numbers from actual research to keep truth in circulation.

Building is an important part of the game for me. Casual base-builders are probably not going to run into the limit; it's typically going to be serious builders. For that reason, I want to be sure that people have the facts about the game's constraints so they can plan correctly, and squeeze the last bit of creativity out of a save.

So, in recent months, I saw a few instances of a new piece of information being shared on the interwebs:

The base limit for PC is 16k, but console users can go up to 20k. (Just to avoid this being shared further, i'm going to spoil it here: that's not right.)

Now, I don't have a console. I couldn't refute this statement, not even a little. What I could do is draw upon the community to verify this.

I like to hang out in the official NMS Discord, so I asked for assistance from folks there. And that crew, being the helpful bunch they are, helped get the verification we needed.

Xbox saves will sync between console and PC (when bought via the MS store). Saves hitting the limit on PC don't become unlocked on console. 16k on Xbox.

Doctor Colossus tested this on PS5. He started a new save, made a base, and spammed parts. Because a base will show you your part count if you exceed the upload limit of 3k parts, he kept building until it wouldn't let him build anymore. It stopped at exactly 16k parts. Brute force, and accurate. Thanks, Doc!

DHarhanWulf tested this on PS4. He used used an existing save and built parts until he reached the build limit. He then exported the save to USB, then used the SaveWizard app to extract the contents of the backup to PC, where he used the save editor and the part counting script. That result: 16k parts. Thanks, DHarhan!

So now, with no caveats or unexplored possibilities, we can say with certainty:

The base part build limit, which includes parts built on your freighter, is 16,000 parts per save, regardless of platform.

Happy building, interlopers!

Nada is the Void Mother

I finally finished the expedition.

Did anyone else talk to Nada before visiting the Atlas each time?

She…. Says some rather condemning statements.

How each iteration is still running…

How she hears and sees their pain… How she shielded herself in the Anomaly…

She’s Korvax.

She’s from one of the original iterations.

She’s shielded in an orb. That looks quite similar to what everyone is calling an ejected core in the dissonant camps. Even the bar that spins across the edge is on the crash site object.

I think these camps are repeating the destruction of Prime. Echos of the past are never lost.

Nada is resurrecting Prime. It’s in the back room! She’s gathering souls and using us to build the bodies!

She never leaves, because she is the Void Mother. Or at least one iteration.

When you exit your iteration, are you deleted from the rest? NO.

Is the Nada we talk to literally the Void Mother? NO. Her other iterations are.

Think of Rick and Morty and the council of ricks. There must be a council of Nada that stayed.

Our Nada is aware, and waiting for us to figure it out (maybe).

Or our Nada is the biggest liar in the game.

How do they have the ability to hack any terminal remotely?

How do they know precisely where an issue is for you to overcome?

How do they KNOW?

“She sees through their eyes”

Nada says a lot of semi random crap until you view it through this lense…

Overlook Hotel base

Overlook Hotel base

HI all, I have just uploaded my almost finished big build, based on the hotel in the Kubrick Shining film.

As I’ve never done a build this large, I’m wondering if anyone here is willing to check it out and let me know if you experience render issues. Currently it loads fine for me on gamepass pc and Xbox series x, but we all know that other players don’t necessarily see the same base as the builder.

While building it was occasionally glitch but has been stable for the past couple days of building… I am at around 2620 parts I think, and will be having to do a seperate base build for the Hedge maze when I can. I am still learning glitch building etc..

Its in the Calypso galaxy, and its freezing there. Just a heads up if you need recharge for hazard.

Please let me know how it loads for you.

I’d appreciate your feedback.

Thanks all, Barlow

PLEASE let us have more than 6 companions

I already posted this on r/No_Mans_Sky but I thought I’d share it here as well.

It’s really weird, I know, but the alien animals are probably one of my all time favorite parts of the game. I get all sentimental about my digital space friends and it’s hard to let them go in favor of a cooler one.

My girlfriend suggested this and I think it’s too genius not to mention, but we can keep the system of having 6 companions. We can only have 6 ACTIVE companions at a time. Every companion that isn’t active can be stored at a base, either in some type of storage or in actual enclosures.

That way you’re still somewhat limited (only I’m not sure why that’s important) and those cool one-of-a-kind creatures are not lost forever. If you let us build enclosures, we could also build space zoos.

Let me say that again.

Space. Zoos.

Thank you very much for your time and attention.

Lesson learned…

Only swapped the multi tool before hitting the center of Euclid. Biggest oopsie I’ve made in gaming history, but that’s not the whole story. I was in my sentinel ship for the final jump… broke everything. Absolutely everything. And now I’ve gotta figur…

Probably the weakest sentinel ship I found yet. At 99 he’s has little to no damage output. My first sentinel ship had 254 as it’s damage output. He looks like a cross between a Manta Ray and Spider and sometimes he looks like he’s conflicted with thought.

But really? How could I put the cutest little frustrated ship into a battle?
