PSA about Sentinel Pillars, and why you should be finding ONE in EVERY system you visit.
So after testing this fairly extensively, I’ve got some results that I’d like to share with the community in regards to sentinel pillars.
There are 2 easy ways of dealing with them. The first is to use the Minotaur to scan for a secure facility, go there, stand just inside the doorway and kill sentinels until the walker shows up and you kill it. Clearing all 5 waves will make the pillar show up on your map. The second is to stumble across one, walk up to the terminal and disable the sentinels. Method two remains the same when using the coordinate maps.
Now on to the fun part, the multi tools. I have found EVERY SINGLE TYPE of multi tool at sentinel pillars. Alien, experimental, royal, rifle and pistol. Mostly grade C, which yes, kind of sucks. There is a redeeming factor though, you can drop a save point next to the terminal and save/reload to roll a white version (or change the trim color on an already white) Royal MT. This doesn’t work for any other kind in my testing, I’ve tried going off world, saving and reloading, then going back, but it only ever works for Royal MTs.
Also worth noting is that in my testing, all sentinel pillars in a system will have the same MT available. Even after buying it at one, the others will still have it (same name, stats, slots and colors) and this applies towards any type of MT.
I know that some will find this more interesting than others, but I’ve been ship hunting for a while and started doing this, it’s gotten me loads of nanites, 3 awesome MTs (all black alien with black crystal “clip” and muzzle, was the best find imo) and I’ve been hunting salvaged frigate modules, no luck with the starships yet, but this method is something I wish I had known back in Euclid where I saw dozens of sentinel pillars that I ignored.
Edit to add: forgot to mention that the sentinel pillars will always have a different MT than what is offered at the station and minor settlements, rerolls included.
