The Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm while it lasts

Now that the final optional milestone is unlocked and patch 4.52 unbroke the expedition, the Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm until it ends. You can easily get 6000 quicksilver in an hour or less. I was able to finish in 45 minutes by doing the following steps to avoid unnecessary backtracking and moving around.

  1. Immediately scan six plants to get the Exobotany milestone and install the scanner upgrade. Scan as many fauna as you can see and various plants and minerals (focus on whatever your scanner upgrade is giving you a bonus for). In total, you need ~135K units to start for microprocessors and eventually another 250K to 300K for wiring looms.
  2. Find your ship and repair it, collecting necessary resources along the way. Take off and head to the nearest ice planet. The ice planets have more things to scan compared to the other planets. Scan as many fauna as you can to try and get the Life In All Its Forms milestone and the second scanner upgrade.
  3. Build your base to finish the next milestone and refine some chromatic metal from the copper you received.
  4. Somewhere between the starting planet and your base planet, repair all but one each of the broken starship and multitool slots to get the Scavenger milestone. You will need the nanites in a minute. The magnetic ferrite and silver are the easiest ones to skip fixing since they are the hardest/most time consuming to get.
  5. Before heading to the space station, install the hyperdrive and build one warp cell. Doing this while at your base ensures you have enough resources without having to backtrack.
  6. Head to the space station and buy the microprocessors to finish the hyperdrive. While you’re here, buy 3 C-class hyperdrive upgrades (buy, save, reload) with the nanites from the Scanveger milestone. These will give you enough range to make every warp except the last one in a single go.
  7. Go to Rendezvous 1-4 and get both the normal and optional milestones, keeping in mind the amount of units you need for wiring looms as you’re scanning.
  8. Somewhere between Rendezvous 1 and 4, you need to find a Traveler grave, get the Indium Drive plans, and install it. The earliest you can do this is on the Rendezvous 1 space station. If you pick the correct option when talking to the Traveler, you should get enough nanites to ask where their grave is (reload if you pick the wrong option). Alternately, if you go into the Anomaly with the milestone selected, you can ask Polo where to find a Traveler.
  9. Travel to Rendezvous 5 and finish the last two milestones. At this point, you should have 6000 quicksilver. Technically, you could finish the full set of milestones to get another 4000 or so quicksilver, but if all you want is the quicksilver it is much faster to just start a new save and go again.
  10. Go to the Anomaly and buy whatever you want from the quicksilver vendor. These items can then be claimed on any other save you want.

I really wish they would dedicated the next update to bug fixes and patches because what good is con...

I came back after 5 years because I got excited seeing all of the content they had. After 2 days…. I’ve fell through my freighter to my death in space, running into walls that aren’t even there, friends walking through my freighter walls, my starship completely disappeared from my list (lost the starship, inventory, and all of my s class upgrades, also a unique the Crystal Wing), friends can land on my freighter but can’t see me. Game shows that my brother is currently hosting multi-player but he is asleep and clearly isn’t, i found a broken s class sentinel ship but couldnt interact with it and could walk through it like it wasnt there (i actually reloaded my autosave and was able to get the ship WITHOUT repairing it, was just automatically added to my list and when i clicked transfer my items, my ship just disappeared like houdini. I am EXTREMELY thankful they give all of these updates for free but what good is additional content if it’s so buggy you can’t enjoy it? I wish they would focus more on performance for once instead of content. I feel like it’s the equivalent of focusing on graphics rather than gameplay. They are focusing on content rather than performance it seems.

I play on pc with a ryzen 7 5800k and 24gb ram and a Gtx 1050 on the lowest settings nearly (i know its a super old card, just dont have funds to get a new one) and still get 10fps on planets and 25fps if I’m in space. At first I thought it was my pc but then my 2 friends whom use xbox one and ps4 have similar issues. They couldn’t explore my freighter because of invisible walls blocking them. I’ve also had my starship dock in the same spot as my friends so the were clipping through eachother. I freaking love this game but I’m so destroyed inside because it’s almost unplayable. I don’t mind bugs, I actually expect them, no game is perfect but when game breaking bugs occur, then that’s when I have an issue.

To anyone who plays on permadeath, mad respect because I died by falling through the floor of my freighter. If I was playing permadeath, I would have broken my keyboard and punched a hole through my monitor.

Sorry about the rant. I really REALLY love this game but it’s borderline unplayable because I keep losing stuff and can’t get it back. Yes I have also had to reload autosaves just so I don’t lose stuff but it’s hard to tell when a bug will occur.

On the recent inventory changes:

First, shut up about things being “overpowered”.

People aren’t complaining an overpowered thing got nerfed/balanced. People are complaining that they worked 100+ hours for upgrades that are now functionally useless. Going “well it was overpowered anyways” is a complete non-argument when the game is fundamentally noncompetitive. If you work hard to minmax in the game, that is a completely valid playstyle and the schadenfreude displayed to extremely powerful, finely tuned setups being ruined is completely baffling.

Now onto ideas:

Personally I’d prefer that the tech slots be expanded a past the current 30, and probably more critically have better synergies/a higher overload capacity. Having up to 6 modules would be nice if two separate inventories aren’t feasible, but honestly in the longer term having more extensive and meaningful synergy interactions across more modules in a single tech inventory would be great and a huge step up from the annoying inventory trade-offs for hyperdrive range, scanner functionality, etc. Fundamentally, I’m totally in favor of a unified inventory, it’s just that this really should have been a move to raise, and not lower the ceiling (x-class modules were a really great example imo). Hopefully future patches and updates will build on this framework, instead of just rolling back all the changes and eliminating the promise this new system could hold.

On the off chance HG ends up reading this as part of community feedback scouting:

You guys have done an amazing job pushing out content for this game, but you need to be really careful not to let the near-universal praise goad you into assuming anything is going to fly. The updates thus far have been very much additive and focused on expansion which is why they’ve been so positively received, but when working on an overhaul that can wipe out hundreds of hours of work you really need to do some more community consultation. Just because your vision and what the community’s interests are have aligned thus far is not a guarantee that they’ll continue to do so, and I really hope that you all keep up the trend of being great with feedback consideration and adjust accordingly. I have nothing but respect for the hard work you have done, and continue to do – I would hate to see any of it go to waste, and if you’d like an example of good community engagement without destroying hype for updates (or in their case DLCs), I’d strongly recommend taking a look at how the RimWorld dev goes about things.
