I was excited for the Leviathan expedition, but after dying one too many times, I have learned that ...

I had just gotten back into the game back when expedition 5 was juuuuuuuust about to end, and my joy at doing the new expeditions (the first one I did since they implemented new expeditions) was cut short after only a few hours.

Even though I didn’t make much progress, I thought it was really fun. I got distracted and completely missed the sixth expedition, but I was right on time for Leviathan. I didn’t think much of the permadeath mode as they said it was going to have roguelike elements, and roguelike is one of my favourite genres (over a thousand hours in Binding of Isaac).

I died a handful of times as I’d never played on survival (or permadeath) before, but those deaths were all around the beginning, no more than an hour in. I learned that I had to play much safer if I was going to progress.

And progress I did. I got all the way to the third phase and was having a lot of fun. Until I landed on a toxic planet and realized I had no toxic protection. Dead.

Allllll the way back to the starting planet. And what progress was saved? Basically nothing. Three of the optional mission rewards, giving a handful of upgrades to ship and exosuit inventory. That’s it.

Progression on everything else, gone. All the data for the missions wiped (save for the final optional ones). Was it a glitch? Probably not. I guess I overestimated the “roguelike” elements that they made for this expedition. I would honestly say that they have no business using that term because the “progression” that is saved is nothing more than a hollow shell of the experience I had.

I had fun up until that death, but not enough to do the whole thing over again. I think I’ll just start up a new save and play like I used to, and hope the next expedition is better. Would have loved to have played the previous expeditions, too. I think it’s a little disappointing that they’re limited events.

Thanks for reading my rant, I guess. Hope everyone else had more fun than I did this go around. Cheers.

The Intergalactic Explorers - Exocraft Roaming

The Intergalactic Explorers - Exocraft Roaming

Last night, the IGE crew gathered for some planetside exploring. We met at the space station to ensure we got all the required upgrades we’d need for the task at hand. Our destination was an uncharted charred planet, the landscape dominated by mountains. Grip and power was required. We gathered to compare notes, swap resources, and ensure we were ready.

We gathered at the designated outpost and got to wrenching. S class engine upgrades, better tires, and some boosters went in, making sure our rigs could climb the vertical expanses surrounding us.

We set out into the unknown. No destination in mind, purely a direction. NORTH was the choice. Compton took the lead, as our most experienced Roamer driver. Pawz and Alex followed, followed by me (Raz), and Kilroy and Enoch a few hundred units back, per usual. We motored along, climbing up the tallest mountains, and yeeting ourselves off enormous cliffs, challenging each other to see who could have the most spectacular wipeouts. Pawz was the clear winner, as while cresting a particularly large hill, he was assaulted by a passing space craft, sending him skyrocketing over the next valley, over the next mountain, and landing somewhere in the next time zone. It was evening before we found where he landed, and celebrated with some IGE Nebula Buds and fireworks.

The next morning, we got ready to go, but sadly, our departure was delayed, as Enoch needed to handle some “business.”

Day two was equally exciting, and by midday, we had found the highest peak around, and after conquering it, took a moment to take in the views. A few days of roaming on the planet’s surface does wonders for your mood, as you realize that the terrain is so varied, the hills all unique, and the opportunities for fun (such as burying Enoch’s Roamer in the dirt while he’s off chasing something shiny) are what exploring is all about.

I saw everyone builds big bases with resources for newbies and people without much free time, so I decided to make several ones, but as small as possible.

Hello everyone, it’s my first post on Reddit. Sorry for any mistakes, I still learn English.

I built 9 small bases (2×2 room+landing pad) in Dalnye system (1’st in expedition). Maybe it’s too late, but if someone hasn’t finished the expedition, I’d like to know, to make something similar in the next one or not.

Would you sacrifice your bases and coordinate locations for an NMS planet update ?

A new planet update may not require anything to change on pre-existing planets. HG could spawn in new planets and systems that coexist alongside what is already there. However, this topic is just meant as thought exorcise for discussion spawned purely out of curiosity.

I love my bases. I’ve spent so many hours designing them, but even more special are their locations. Paradise planets with geography that almost looks hand crafted. Trade Post and Archive within short teleport distance. Runaway Mold farms built to perfection! Some things you find in the game just can’t be replicated.

I would sacrifice it all for a truly next generation update to planets. Refined terrain generation, larger and denser foliage, more base assets to spawn procedural creatures, foliage, etc.., and planets with biome diversity (this could be a rare find. Not every planet).

If it came down to choosing to keep your old bases or sacrificing them for the new world, what would you do? What would you like to see on next gen planets?

Edit: Grammar and getting popcorn

Setting Up Frigate Missions

I honestly don’t know if I’m wasting my time crafting frigate upgrades.

I select frigates that match the mission type, making sure to have a 5-star rating. Most of my ships are S-class now. I add 3 frigate upgrades to each mission (also matching them to the mission type). I have several freighter upgrades that help with various things.

I genuinely don’t know if I’m getting better returns by including the frigate upgrades or not. I left them off yesterday and I actually got more stuff.

I just wonder what’s the best way to maximize the success of frigate missions.
