This post will be refreshed every few days. The old post are still available for answering questions in those post.

Below are a few popular questions that we’ve received from our past FAQ thread. As always we ask that everyone be respectful and we welcome everyone’s contribution so have fun!

Q- I’m keen to start a new passive money making pursuit. What are some good ideas or guides post-Waypoint?

A#1-Gold farm, then take that stack and sell it at a terminal (not traders) in systems that sell gold. Sell all your gold to the terminal and crash the economy. Then buy it all back at 80% off discount. You just got free money and keep all the gold. All this takes is an initial investment on a gold farm, then you carry all that gold with you and just sell/buy back when you get to another system that sells gold. With 50 stacks in my ship’s cargo hold, I can make somewhere around 150 million units in each system I do this in.

A#2-Start a Farm, Fusion Igniters or Statis Devices Farm which will increase your profits to 100- 200 mil fairly quickly and you can even send out multiple freighter missions which will help you get aronium, magno-gold, Enriched carbon and more which will increase the profits even more.

A#3-Quickest way I’ve found to make a TON of units: Harvesting Storm Crystals. Find a VERY hot planet that has frequent fire storms. DURING STORMS ONLY – you can see the bright white light from Storm Crystals if you fly around low enough. Fly to them, land, quickly harvest them, get back in your ship and fly to the next before you burn up. Q-Where can I post ships and other cool stuff that I want to share with the public? A-You can always post on this sub and now the NMSGlyphExchange is live! Q-How do I get the Advanced Mining Laser? I don’t have the option to craft one, and the multi-tool upgrade vendor at the space station doesn’t have the blueprint for sale.

A-In order to get it, you have to look for the blueprints in crashed ships or abandoned facilities. You get it from the main story (awakenings) or you can buy it on the anomaly.

Q-What do I actually do in the game? I finished the tutorial, is there anything else beside gathering stuff, building a base and repeat?

A#1-It’s really whatever you want, there’s a base story, (assuming you haven’t completed it already), follow the quest log and you’ll figure it out, but things You’d want to do for end game? You can collect multiple multitools, ships, built a fleet for your freighter, etc.

Q-Is there a planet that is populated by many players, and they built their base close to each others like a city?

A- Yeah its the Galactic Hub Project, Its a place where many people have bases and each day the numbers grow. Please help yourself. There are many factions in NMS that do this, even NMS Pirates Hub.

Q-I’m still pretty early into the game, just making my way to the center of the galaxy, what should I be spending my credits on?

A-Go hang around a outlaw/pirate trading post. Cheapest S-class start at around 8-8.5 million without a trade-in. I recommend Vikeen pirate, as then you have two good and 1 remote chances at high-maneuverability S-class: fighter, solar, exotic.

How many of you play the game like this?

When I play NMS my mindset is not the same as playing other games (playing it in VR also), let me explain:

– Flying on my ship: I tend to not use pulse drive, or deactivate it on purpose when 1-2 minutes close to a planet, I never get tired of the whole landing process, and then get a view of the planet biome.

– Taking it slow: I’ve finished the main quest line about 3 times already, my current save file has been the longest, the first 2 times I rushed for money and I think that kinda made things dull (worst mistake I think, is to rush for money, even more now that you can just change game modes and get anything you want if you wish to do so), this time I took things slow and I’ve been enjoying the game a lot more, A LOT more, even tho right now I have more units than ever before, I never got in a tiresome grind loop, and I never needed to, this game is grindy only if you make it grindy to be honest, you don’t even need to grind for power since most common multi tools will be enough to fight sentinels and kill them all, and if you need a powerful enough ship to kill pirates with ease, just get a living ship and get some good pilots on your squad (tho they are never that good, but hey any help is good!).

– Ignore gifts: not because I’m not grateful (I do think people ingame are very kind) but it feels kinda wrong and breaks the purpose of playing the game, again doesn’t bother me now, but had I taken those gift to sell and get easy money, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the whole process.

– Use my best-looking ship instead of the best one: I just love how my interceptor looks, and it’s black and red! it’s nowhere as good as my living ship, but dang isn’t it cool? and they hover!

– Not rushing to the center: I’ve been slowly traveling to the center, I’ve found some neat planets in the process, my favorite ones are the frozen ones, forever christmas.

– I rather warp using my freight: IDK exactly why I like it more than using a ship, but there’s something special about it, it’s like a home after all.

Over all my experience with the game since my mindset has been like this, it’s been night and day in comparison, I think my 2 previous save games have been useful as a way to realize what kind of game I was playing, I think remembering my times with minecraft helped me to see why I always came back into the game but never got to know exactly why, and now I realize it, just sit back and enjoy the universe at your own pace, nothing is rushing you to any goal at all, don’t do annoying things because you think the goal will be good, do things to enjoy them so you don’t have to do them the annoying way.

And this is I think the problem many people have, not blaming it on them btw, a game can’t appeal everyone, it’s not a game about goals and many gamers want goals, it’s a game about what you would want to do given a universe to explore, same thing you do in minecraft, explore, craft, build, enhance, and maybe get to the ender dragon and then the exit portal (I’ve never done that just because I never got interested on it, even after playing the game for years).

Just wanted to share my experience with the game with you all, and also ask you for your experience, maybe I’m not that odd of a player and someone else out there also do the same things, or some of them, or maybe you enjoy the game doing the opposite, it would be interesting to know!

PSA for Expedition OMEGA if you use your main save

If you can get by in the expedition without using the expansion slots for multitools, your exosuit, and your starship that you are awarded during the different phases of the expedition, you can take them back with you to your main save when the expedition is over, and use them on your main save.

Keep in mind that you can buy one exosuit expansion at the space station and one in the Anomaly in each system you visit during the expedition as well.

Also, despite the end-of-expedition bug that I managed to get around with the photo-mode fix, I really liked how I could take things back to my main save. It was also very satisfying to get a ton of units and nanites to carry over to your main save, not only for the other stuff in your inventories, but also your in-expedition accomplishments, even those not directly related to the expedition itself.

I sometimes feel that the HG devs don’t respect the players’ time with some of their design decisions, but this was the first time I felt like my time was well worth playing the expedition because it advanced my main save as well, and not just with cosmetics and cool building parts.
