NMS HOT POST 2023/07/17

Thank you to the stranger in the anomaly

So I loaded into the game yesterday, was running around the Anomaly, getting some oddball blueprints and stuff.

I’m currently giving this game a second chance. My first play through lasted 5hrs and that was probably 3yrs ago. So I’m currently 20 something into it now. I’m slowly progressing the story and having a blast. I found a beat up and run down ship and I’ve fixed it up, same with my multitool. I’ve got a few other ships rebuilt enough to fly them in and cash them in for scrap.

So anyways I’m in the Anomaly and I had to go afk because my kiddos needed something, so I was gone for maybe 10 minutes and I came back, not thinking anything happened, went and did my business.

As I’m doing my flying through space I check my inventory and notice that I have 20 stasis devices. What the? Never heard of these. So I google and noticed that they are best sold for credits.

Wow. I appreciate the help and I’m going to pay it forward when I get further along and can actually make and process these things. It’s definitely going to help me on my journey

Best stats from X-class and Sentinel mods

Best stats from X-class and Sentinel mods

So I spent the weekend rerolling x-class and sentinel upgrades more than 125 times across 14 different mods for exosuit, ships and multitools. My results are in the pictures. Bolded number sets are upgrades I find desirable, which isn’t every single top tier stat roll because upgrades for some mods have potential to boost more different stats than one single upgrade will affect (like jetpacks; 6 different possible stats, only 4 actually get boosted, at most). Notice how the same iteration will give top tier stats for most different upgrades. That means t8yhat the most effective way to get top tier upgrades is to install 50 or 60 upgrades, find which iterations roll these top-class numbers, then restart, burn c-class upgrades until you reach that iteration, save, then try all your different upgrades to see which gives you the stats you like best. Once you choose, you can move on to the next iteration you’ve found and try them all again.

(Obviously the real reason I’m posting though, is just fishing for accolades on my 120×30 cell, handwritten spreadsheeting skillzsss…)

First ever Exotic ship!

I’m just cruising through Euclid working on actually completing the story quests finally and this thing lands out of no where on the station! So exciting as I’ve never actually seen an exotic ship before other than player ones that have landed on…

Perma-death players -- What is the appeal of this game mode?

This is an earnest question, not a jab. I’m genuinely curious to hear from perma-death players.

I’m a veteran player with 566 hours on record (currently playing on Survival mode), and to me at least, perma-death doesn’t sound like the kind of added challenge that enhances the player experience in any meaningful way. All it does is massively raise the stakes of failure, like performing skateboard stunts without protective gear. (Except that the bad outcome in this case is just extreme frustration rather than brain damage.)

Is it a completionist thing? I can sort of understand that: I’m at 25/27 Steam achievements myself, and getting to the center of the galaxy on perma-death mode is one of my two missing achievements. Only 0.7% of NMS players have done it, so if you have, I guess congratulations are in order.
