MOGWAI

MOGWAI

Just wanted to say, anybody who is a fan of the 65 Days of Static soundtrack on NMS should give the band Mogwai a listen. in particular, the album "As the love continues", although, in my opinion, they are all awesome.

Anyone who just wants a pet Mogwai, should head to the Hilbert dimension, where I'm about to go build a shabby Chinese oddity shop.

Hello fellow Travelers!

Hello fellow Travelers!

I’m new to No Mans Sky and I loved it so much that I wanted to join the community! I’m playing on the Nintendo Switch on a custom difficulty. (Survival: except “standard” for on-foot combat and space combat)

Raw materials became a headache early on while building and just surviving. I wanted a safe and easy way to get basic materials so I could focus on exploring and building. Copper, Pyrite and Oxygen mines provide basic building and survival materials. All resources for the 3 mines are sent to the main base and into the refining room where the 3 main silos are. The 3 mines produce about 55k units in a 15-16hr cycle time. It’s all been a nice source of income starting out too.

I’ve played 120 hours in the first 3 weeks🤕 Thought I’d share a few photos of what I had so far. I apologize for the quality of the photos but again I’m playing on the switch. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Interlopers!

After a week of searching, I finally found one of the game's worst planets

After a week of searching, I finally found one of the game's worst planets

This took a week of searching in Calypso, visiting nearly 100 star systems in all before I found it.

This planet has just about everything wrong with it:

  • Extreme hazards (which implies extreme storms, and activated elements)
  • Aggressive sentinels
  • An infestation
  • No water
  • In a star system with a T1 economy and level 3 conflict

The only thing it’s really missing is extreme terrain. And possibly a visual glitch. But, overall, I am pleased with it.

There is literally no reason to come to here except to leave and never return. Maybe just to look around and say, “Yup. This place sucks”. Because it does.

I am thinking of building a home here.

It is kinda beautiful in its own right, though. The zebra striping on the infested elements is a nice touch that I don’t see often, so I suppose things could be just a smidgen more terrible on that front, too. But finding a worse planet would be a challenge.

Enjoy, travelers!

A Portal on Every Planet? Math doesn't check out...

I read somewhere that every planet has a portal on it. According to the advertising and the in-game dialog, there are over 18 quintillion planets in NMS total.

If the portal has 16 glyphs to choose from, and there are 12 glyphs in a portal address, that should be 16^12, which is over 281 trillion different portal addresses. So I read somewhere else there are 256 galaxies, and the portals are only intra-galaxy (cannot portal you to a different galaxy than the source), so if we multiply 281 trillion by 256, we get roughly 72 quadrillion portal addresses spread over the 256 galaxies. That’s 3 orders of magnitude shy of 18 quintillion.

Is some of this information incorrect, or am I missing something else? Or could it be that not every planet has a portal? I would think some of the barren ones might not, since they seem to have no other buildings, but I don’t usually spend much time on them.

I would think it’s not realistically possible for anyone to scour an entire planet manually searching for a portal, so it would be extremely difficult to visually prove that no portal exists on any given planet, but unless some of those numbers are wrong, I would think it has to be that some planets don’t contain portals.

Just feeling extra math-nerdy tonight, and was curious if anyone had any information about the claim that every planet had a portal.

Transferring NMS from PS4 To PS5

I have about 70 hours in NMS on my PS4 and I uploaded my latest progress to my PS5(but when I bought the PS5 version of the game, downloaded it and ran it, my file is not there.) Where is the file and how would I retrieve it on my PS5? I can’t stand the thought of starting from scratch(but I will if I have to.) Some input on this situation would be much appreciated.

Gardening is fun

This is my Stasis farm biologicals, a two minute run down the hall gives me enough to make almost 100 stasis devices at 15.6M units each. Couple that with my collection of S-class mines across 11 galaxies and you’ve got a moneymaking operation. …
