I summoned my freighter inside a planet and teleported to it.

I summoned my freighter inside a planet and teleported to it.

Lately I’ve been stumped about what to do next in my space walking research. I saw a post recently about a new base at a planet intersection I had never been to, so I decided to check it out. I warped over and after exploring the base, I went to call in my freighter. That’s when I noticed it. The freighter projection was parallel with the surface of the planet I was on, like usual, but since the gravity was askew at the intersection, it looked like it was pointing up. And with another planet right there above me, it was partially in that planet. So I summoned it and sure enough, there it was, the front half of my freighter was coming out of the planet above me. Then I figured I should teleport to it and check out the effect for myself. Once I stabilized, I was floating in place in my freighter! When I moved I started swimming! All of my personnel were walking like normal (I guess they forgot to order me a pair of magnetic boots, whatever). So I swam around a bit to the bridge and the hangar. Then I went outside to the viewing deck and realized I was inside the planet. It was wild. I stayed within my freighters gravity field at first, then I got bored and ventured off. I started falling, but actually swimming, down fast and eventually just fell through the bedrock and spawned on the planet. I was hoping to fall into the negative space within the intersection and be able to land and build a base. Maybe next time. Not exactly space walking research but another new possibility discovered, that’s a good day.

Insane Settlers / This Can't Be Normal

So to preface, I’m very early game on my first run and still learning everything (In my 4th system after my 3rd was following up the Rebel Star quest). I’ve got stacks of navigation data taking up too much inventory space so I decide to to spend some at the cartographer and buy a settlement location map, thinking it would reveal one of those trade post minor settlements. Instead I am delightedly surprised to find myself the new overseer and be introduced to the settlement management mechanic. Cool. Unfortunately, I’m also constantly fighting off sentinels, which is odd because the settlement stats only list 22% next to what I assume is supposed to be sentinel aggro, but they seem pretty dang mad. Also why is the ground just lousy with gravitino balls? Eventually I figured out what that “Aggressive Sentinels” tag on the planet meant.

So yeah, it turn out these settlers thought it would be a great idea to set up shop on an irradiated hellscape of a planet that spends 98% of its time under a radiation storm AND also has aggressive attack on sight sentinels. Probably just so they can “In my day…” their future kids. Cut to me dodging fire in the blinding radiation storm just trying to drop off the materials to get the overseer office built. At least I can teleport in now for any decisions, but a single step out the door and it’s a warzone.

This can’t be the intended means of introducing the settlement mechanic, right? There was probably a much gentler tutorial quest line somewhere down the line that I have vaulted right past because I just wanted to spend the nav data taking up space.
