Insane Settlers / This Can’t Be Normal

So to preface, I'm very early game on my first run and still learning everything (In my 4th system after my 3rd was following up the Rebel Star quest). I've got stacks of navigation data taking up too much inventory space so I decide to to spend some at the cartographer and buy a settlement location map, thinking it would reveal one of those trade post minor settlements. Instead I am delightedly surprised to find myself the new overseer and be introduced to the settlement management mechanic. Cool. Unfortunately, I'm also constantly fighting off sentinels, which is odd because the settlement stats only list 22% next to what I assume is supposed to be sentinel aggro, but they seem pretty dang mad. Also why is the ground just lousy with gravitino balls? Eventually I figured out what that "Aggressive Sentinels" tag on the planet meant.

So yeah, it turn out these settlers thought it would be a great idea to set up shop on an irradiated hellscape of a planet that spends 98% of its time under a radiation storm AND also has aggressive attack on sight sentinels. Probably just so they can "In my day…" their future kids. Cut to me dodging fire in the blinding radiation storm just trying to drop off the materials to get the overseer office built. At least I can teleport in now for any decisions, but a single step out the door and it's a warzone.

This can't be the intended means of introducing the settlement mechanic, right? There was probably a much gentler tutorial quest line somewhere down the line that I have vaulted right past because I just wanted to spend the nav data taking up space.

Are you new player looking for some tips to get you started? Are you a veteran player with some advi...

Here’s some of the FAQ suggestions we received in our previous FAQ thread. Keep in mind that these are opinions from some of our valued OP’s and you may agree or disagree with some of these. We just ask that everyone remains respectful when replying to this thread and we look forward to your contribution! NMSTG Mod Team

You can also drop a quick tip!

Tip #1: Always try to multitask. Too many new players seem to be hyper focused on farming for something rather than enjoying the game. You’ll get tons of units and nanites as you play. Always try to be doing multiple things. Pick up the portable refiner so you can refine something from your inventory while exploring and mining.

Tip #2: Avoid multiplayer until unlocking the anomaly, can be stranded if not.

Q- “I was on the Anomaly and a bunch of expensive stuff showed up in my inventory. What do I do with it?

A:” Congrats! Another player has bestowed you with a gift. Most likely it is an item to sell for some quick and easy cash, unless it is some form of egg (companion eggs for pets, void eggs to begin a quest for a living ship). Usually the item description will tell you what it is used for.

Q: “Help, I claimed a broken ship and now I can’t find my starter ship! Is it gone forever?”

A:” If you merely selected to “claim” the broken ship and not “swap” it, then your old ship is still around. If you left it with launch fuel in the tank, you can summon it with the quick-menu (if you select the summon icon, you can find current ship, exocraft, freighter and other ships). If it does not have fuel, it can be summoned on the Anomaly (once you unlock it), your freighter (once you acquire one), or it will magically show up in the space station if you decide to scrap the new ship.”

Q- “Are crashed ships worth repairing?”

A-” Unless it is an exotic, no. Scrap the ship at the space station, sell the items it gives you, and use those units to buy a better, working version of a ship in that system.

Q- “Any advice for new players?”

A-“For new players, make sure you read the guide in-game. It’s an excellent beginner’s guide for traveling, learning about the alien races, building, and etc. Take a look over the catalogue of items too. It’ll come in handy when you need to learn how to craft materials. Turn off pvp. Also, I’d strongly suggest mining a massive amount of carbon, oxygen, and sodium. These three items will be some of your most used and critical items in the game.

Memorial service for @Xxiuogames

Memorial service for @Xxiuogames

On 7/15 there will be a memorial service for @xxiuogames on this planet in the Eissentam Galaxy. If you have never accessed this Galaxy you can teleport there from the space anomaly. There is a community highlight featured. That’ll take you right to the galaxy. You’ll need to make sure you have all 16 glyphs and find a portal. For more information, search YouTube for Rice’s Space Emporium.

Pirate Freighter friends, let's talk about what we're inheriting here...

So, aside from lighting that’s way too Klingon (clearly these pirates are Star Trek fans), I’m wondering if anyone’s taken a space walk to check things out. I did. And I found 3 armed anti-freighter torpedoes under the main bridge and hangar. You know, where our entire base is. It’s sitting on top of a massive cache of mass destruction. Booby trap for the interloper who dares to force them into submission? Or a smart move, and if the latter, where’s the detonator? Who has the launch codes? Are they still on board? Let’s figure this out. And while we’re at it, figure out how to get the gun turrets on this mighty vessel to actually do something in a fire fight…

Note: no regrets. I had come to loathe the star destroyer-lite freighter that used to be the coolest thing in space. It felt good to make a huge change like this, and docking is considerably easier and more enjoyable now. But those torpedoes… damn. Sense of unease intensifies.

Useful Tip for escaping Sentinel ships

If you’re in space and want to escape sentinal interceptors without fighting them, and you’re past the anomaly part of the story, you can summon the anomaly and jump inside, and it will remove your wanted rating.

Space stations work too, but depending on how far away they are, it can be a pain with a disabled pulse drive.

I figured this one out a few weeks ago, and I use it all the time if I’m not in the mood for a prolonged sentinal space fight.

How did you make your first billion units?

I started playing this game last Christmas and it took awhile for me to get the hang of it. Eventually I found myself drawn to Gravitinos and started farming them exploring between harvests (mostly looking for silver). I learned base building this way and made my first billion units. I know making money isn’t the point of the game but it felt like an accomplishment for me and I was curious how everyone else made their first billion?
