I was today years old and 300 hours in when I discovered

I somehow opened up a Crafting window within my inventory for the Portable Reactor that showed the entire crafting steps and just left clicking on each step built 1 of those things. So, from this screen I could build Acid with a single left click then single left click Unstable Gel to build it, it showed how many I already had of everything required to build each thing in a easily to see flow chart. I do not know how I got to said screen but it is AWESOME!

Base building mechanics

I wish I could say I’m a good builder, but the reality is that I have no talent whatsoever. Just trying my best. I watched tutorials online and I gathered the basics, but I have a few questions on the matter:

  • I know that manipulating the terrain by digging is counter-productive bc it grows back. Does this apply to the terrain flattener too? If so, what’s the point of having a tool so obviously designed to make flat space for your base?

  • Sometimes when I put down a prefab, it autonomously delete portions of terrain that would clip into it. In this case, does it grow back regardless?

  • What about natural resources (rocks and plants)? Do they grow back? I ask because every tutorial says if you want to build a base in a cave you better find a natural cave… But natural caves are filled with stalagmites and cave pumpkins. I don’t know if I can safely build over those.

  • Let’s say I want to connect two parts of my base, but in the middle there’s a mountain. I carve a large hole in the mountain and place a prefab corridor or passage tube to connect the two parts. After a while, the terrain I carved comes back. Does it clip inside the corridor I placed preventing me to traverse it or does it just “surround” my pieces leaving the space inside empty?

  • Last… Is there an effective way/trick to snap different base styles pieces together? I’m building with prefab and cubic rooms, but I can’t for the life of me make a pathway OUTSIDE to connect different buildings, bacause not a single floor present in the game snaps with the prefab (again, I’m talking about the exterior)

Thanks!

I know ship hunting is important but... its kind of brutal that we cannot atleast modify an existing...

Thinking of the big picture you probably will never be able to obtain the starship that you dream of ever in your lifetime. The common saying is that exploration is a core aspect of the game and the player should keep exploring to find the ship they want, but there is a very brutal catch…

The world of NMS consists of 256 Galaxies, all with their hundreds of systems, who also have their handful of planets, the NMS world is so huge that you probably wouldn’t even be able to comb through it all in your whole lifetime even if you explored 24/7 without going to the bathroom or eating.

Now here is my point, I don’t intend to imply that HG should just allow us to build our own ship and make the whole exploring shtick useless, but atleast we should be able to work with something that is “good enough”. A Sentinel ship for instance, I find a good model with folding wings and belly horn but it has the ugly big wing stuck in its body? I should be able to remove it. I find a good one with the wrong colors? I should be able to change the paintjob.

No modifying the entire ship, but still be able to change a range of body parts and paint to better match what we want, I dont care if it would change it to C class or if it costed an unholy amount of Nanites, it would simply be another nice goal to chase at endgame.

What items should you carry with you at all times in early/middle game?

New to the game and I’m still struggling to understand what items and materials I should keep with me all the time to be able to face any situation and build almost all I need for exploring. I have 50+ hours to the game and my main items in inventory right now are Oxygen, Sodium, Carbon, Chromatic Metal, Life-Support Gel and then Batteries and Tritium in the Ship.

Exosuit Slots

I just found out that you can pick any slot you want to when unlocking slots for your exosuit. The game auto selects a slot for you, but you can choose your own. This includes increasing the slots you can put technology into. Not just the standard inv…

Does anyone else view Pilgrim's Tonic as alcoholic?

I’ve spent many years making the stuff on my homesteads. I always kind of like to think of it like I’m making a fine wine from my vineyard. It’d certainly fill a gap in the big gap of potential consumables in the game since it doesn’t seem like we’ll ever get sandwiches, burgers, or beer… Hell pizza should be in the game. Anyway, wanted to see other traveller’s views of the drink in their playthroughs.

Credits Cap Ideas

Credits Cap Ideas

Are there any new worthwhile ways to get the max credits back down by purchasing items? I’m finally at the cap and find that not being able to sell items is a downer.

I’ve thought of buying ships to scrap but that seems wasteful. I could imagine it as a business loss in game though.

I wish we could donate items to some kind of product slot machine or massive project. I stopped selling my lucrative items a long while ago to postpone this issue.
