Ship to ship combat is kind of obnoxious

The AI has one move: fly in a circle faster than I can turn, then run straight at me passing like 2 inches away from my ship (because that makes sense), repeat endlessly. It’s annoying as shit to get like half a second on target before it rips by me. And I know this is a me problem, but I get motion sick easily and spending 90% of the dogfight spinning in place trying to follow the damn things gets extremely nauseating really fast.

Easily my least favorite part of NMS.

Compostellar is a red tropical planet located in The Wandering Star system, in Euclid, a yellow star gek system with 5 planets and 1 moon.

It has regular cycles with green skies during the day and black skies at night. The climate is misty warm, although pleasant, and the temperature is usually around 77 ºF. However, during heat storms it can reach 419 ºF.

The resources that can be found in Compostellar are: star bulb, sodium, paraffin and copper, mainly.

It is a planet with abundant flora and scarce fauna. The soil is covered by a dense red grass, although in some areas the grass acquires a more pinkish tone.

https://preview.redd.it/cl8vsou8mg191.png?width=684&format=png&auto=webp&s=1d41755d2f2ca4e2046b12e6d3efa12da6d19024

It lacks oceans, seas, lakes or rivers, since it has no water on its surface or in the depths of its caverns. The terrain is varied, with mountainous areas and flatter regions formed by plains, as well as some hills. The forests are made up of three species of trees, described below.

https://preview.redd.it/7pqfbegz1h191.png?width=1470&format=png&auto=webp&s=0cc33c8b81986bfe82fecb0ab7b85629e1d95f12

The sharpleaf is a tree with a narrow trunk at its base that widens, forming a bulb at its upper end, inside which large quantities of condensed water are stored. From the trunk emerge branches crowned by leaves in the shape of an ogive, whose edges are so sharp that can easily cut the flesh, which give it its name. These trees do not usually grow much more than 3-4 meters.

https://preview.redd.it/jlm5j0t12h191.png?width=1508&format=png&auto=webp&s=86af22f63173010af6d5c8d303d22eb3cd41fbb7

The shadowtree is a generally taller tree, in whose trunk different species of fungi tend to proliferate due to the nutrients in its bark and the water accumulation system it has to survive on a planet without liquid water on its surface.

The leaves of this tree are wide and cast large shadows around it, hence its name.

But above the rest stands the longneck. This species, which can reach 10-15 meters in height, has a long trunk that protrudes from the forest, ending in a dense fringe of tropical leaves. Some of the planet’s flying species use the tops of longnecks to create their nests, because they provide good cover against hot storms.

Less common is the whipler palmtree species. Its trunks are formed by several branches that emerge from the ground. It usually grows forming Y-shaped trees, with two main branches crowned by leaves very similar to those of the longneck, but in this case curling upwards.

On the other hand, the understory is composed of the aforementioned red grass and two subspecies of shrubs, known as roundplants. The first is the blood roundplant, so called because of its dark color. The second is the light roundplant. These shrubs can be found all over the planet, covering the forest floor.

The catalog of the surface flora is crowned by the dangerous flora, abundant in Compostellar. There are all kinds, described below.

https://preview.redd.it/zgqwgoj01h191.png?width=2296&format=png&auto=webp&s=81ef7ddddc8316510adfb262c8c1b6c8253cf094

The floorwhip will stretch at the slightest movement, lashing out and expelling a kind of acid capable of damaging an exosuit’s protective systems.

Toxspitters, common throughout the galaxy, will swell on approach and expel a highly toxic and noxious gas.

The bloodmaw have in their center a flower that is a source of oxygen, but you have to be careful, because if someone tries to approach the two large leaves on the sides will close as if it were a terrible mouth, and can seriously injure.

The cave flora consists mainly of bulbous flowers and a single type of dangerous flora, similar to the toxspitter, but in miniature. This dangerous flora is in the form of several blisters stuck to the ground, which when approached will swell and expel a gas that is also toxic and noxious. It is especially important to be cautious with these, as caves are enclosed places where a large accumulation of toxic gas can be fatal.

As for the fauna, to date no terrestrial species have been recorded on the planet, so there are only three flying species inhabiting Compostellar.

The floorpiker, named after the Wanderer’s first encounter with this species, is a species of bird with membranous wings. The anatomy of this species reveals wings formed by the elongation of the fingers of the hand, which arise directly from the sides of the body and are joined together by a thin membrane of skin without feather covering. The rest of the animal’s body is covered by a layer of fine down. The head has a small beak and two tiny eyes wrapped in a black mask. Its double tail allows it to perform quick turns in the air. Dense teeth and a series of extremely acidic stomachs allow them to consume a diet based mainly on rocks. Weight: 122.5 kg / Height: 2.0 m

The megachiroptera compostellari is a species of flying mammal that can be found in the skies all over the planet. Its body anatomy is extremely similar to that of the floorpiker, as it has a pair of membranous wings formed by an extension of its hands, a forked tail that increases its maneuverability in the air and even its legs are quite similar to those of a bird. However, the head gives it away. It has two large ears that are part of its echolocation system, which allows it to move in absolute darkness thanks to a series of high-pitched sounds it produces with its mouth. It also has a flattened nose with a great sense of smell and two large eyes. Their highly specialized digestive systems allow them to feed on star bramble. Weight: 85.1 kg / Height: 1.8 m

The last species, the wander ichtiornis, is also a subspecies of bird. It has two equally membranous wings, but its anatomy is different from that of the other species. In the wander ichtiornis, the arm is prolonged and ends in a hand whose fingers are interconnected by a skin membrane. In turn, the last finger of each hand is joined to the sides of the body by another thin membrane that completes the wing. The bird’s head ends in a long beak and its tail is thick, short and rounded. The wander ichtiornis makes swooping dives from great heights to hunt prey, usually insects that crawl on the surface. The gills on the inside of their cheeks allow them to absorb water and extract the necessary nutrients from the insects’ bodies. Their torpedo-shaped body is capable of damaging the deck of a ship in one of their dive plunges. Weight: 72.5 kg / Height: 1.5 m

As for the orography of the planet, there are a couple of curiosities worth mentioning. The first of these are the numerous rocky monoliths known as Pillars. Although they look like intentional constructions, they are actually natural rock formations. On top of these Pillars nest mainly the wander ichtiornis. These monoliths are adored by the followers of the Wanderer, since in his notes he tells how they served him as shelter, guide and protection throughout his journey. In many of them you can still find the remains of the bases he established.

Pillars

The second orographic curiosity is the Sores. These formations are found in the form of gigantic grooves on the ground. It really looks as if something had crawled over the land and left a huge footprint in its wake. It is speculated that they may have been caused by sandworms, however, no activity of this species has been recorded on the planet and no fossil or biological remains of any kind have been found to confirm this hypothesis. The origin of the Sores remains a mystery to this day.

One of the Sores

There is little to say about the geology of the planet. About 17 unique rock species can be found in Compostellar. Most of them only serve to obtain ferrite derivatives, except for some that also offer paraffinium.

Some common compostellari rocks

Compostellar has a whole series of interconnected caverns in many regions, which gives depth to the exploration of the planet. These uninhabited caverns have their own flora, already mentioned above, and geology. Stalactites, stalagmites, fungi and bioluminescent flora are predominant here.

A typical compostellari cave

In some cases, the soil of these caves provides the necessary nutrients for the outside crimson grass to grow as well.

As for the climate, as already mentioned, Compostellar is a planet of warm mist, generally with a pleasant temperature. However, although not common, heat storms lash the surface with high temperatures and terrible lightning. It is dangerous to stay outside during one of these storms.

Compostellari heat storm

In short, Compostellar is an exuberant and wonderful planet, with a mysterious history and much still to be discovered. In addition, it is the place where the legend of the Wanderer was forged, the traveler who went around the planet just walking and left his learnings written in eight fragments of what is known as “The Wanderer’s Path”.

Do you guys really prefer the old terrain (Pre-NEXT)?

I see a lot of people saying that before NEXT the terrain was better but I kinda like the terrain more now than before, the old terrain generation maybe was more varied but I think it looks way better and prettier now, I played a lot of the old NMS and I really didn’t liked much the terrain at the time, I remember a lot people complained about it too even before NEXT and Atlas Rises.

If they are going to do a reset to the terrain I would like if they keep the terrain that already exist and also add a way to allow the old ones to form as well, or do something that mix both terrains or something completely new.
