Will you build an orbital base on my world?

I built an orbital base I’m really proud of. It features lots of floating gas extractors. I picked a planet where the sky is always a foggy purple / blue. I find this makes the orbital base look higher since you can’t really see the ground.

I want to build another base to fly to but I can only upload one. I was wondering if anyone wanted to build on my world? I think it would be great to have a world of orbital bases.

Three things I hope for, from a Day 1 player

Love this whole community! It’s been so amazing to be a part of this game as it’s changed over the years, I still love playing almost every day and have logged over 2000 hours now! Best gaming community by far. There’s three things I’d love to see, and curious on what you want, maybe Sean will see us!

  1. A customizable ship, not making ships customizable, but just giving us one new ship that we can collect parts for.

  2. Geneva Drive. Imagine the possibilities of we had a simple motor and we could attach base parts and items to it. Would let us add motion to our builds and even make machines!

  3. Introduce a new species on a planet. So often I find a great planet, but I don’t build there because the fauna is kinda lame, it would be great if we could collect animals and then introduce that species on a new planet!

Summer Palace of a settlement in Paradise Planet

These days, when I have little time (due to work, studies, etc.), I’ve found a small hobby in my free time that relaxes me: Building in this wonderful game. My two ideas in mind are two identical buildings, but one with a summer palace theme for relaxation and the other more like a headquarters on an atmosphere-less planet, the capital of my gaming community.

The one I’m presenting now is in my settlement, also constructed of stone, serving as the settlement leader’s building. I’m trying to give it a Spanish/Andalusian “patio” style, which would be surrounded by the rest of the structure (guest rooms, bathrooms, dining area…) and defended by 4 towers that dominate the corners. I still need to modify walls by adding some windows, find a nice color, etc. I know I’m not the best builder, but I’m proud of my creation, and I hope you all like it too 😊

Base building mechanics

I wish I could say I’m a good builder, but the reality is that I have no talent whatsoever. Just trying my best. I watched tutorials online and I gathered the basics, but I have a few questions on the matter:

  • I know that manipulating the terrain by digging is counter-productive bc it grows back. Does this apply to the terrain flattener too? If so, what’s the point of having a tool so obviously designed to make flat space for your base?

  • Sometimes when I put down a prefab, it autonomously delete portions of terrain that would clip into it. In this case, does it grow back regardless?

  • What about natural resources (rocks and plants)? Do they grow back? I ask because every tutorial says if you want to build a base in a cave you better find a natural cave… But natural caves are filled with stalagmites and cave pumpkins. I don’t know if I can safely build over those.

  • Let’s say I want to connect two parts of my base, but in the middle there’s a mountain. I carve a large hole in the mountain and place a prefab corridor or passage tube to connect the two parts. After a while, the terrain I carved comes back. Does it clip inside the corridor I placed preventing me to traverse it or does it just “surround” my pieces leaving the space inside empty?

  • Last… Is there an effective way/trick to snap different base styles pieces together? I’m building with prefab and cubic rooms, but I can’t for the life of me make a pathway OUTSIDE to connect different buildings, bacause not a single floor present in the game snaps with the prefab (again, I’m talking about the exterior)

My Request to Hello Games

I submitted this request to Hello Games for settlement improvements (I include it merely for anyone who wishes to read it). What ideas do you all have to make settlements more relevant and fun?

I really love the idea of settlements. Even though this is technically an MMO it can get quite lonely in space. I like the idea of being in charge of something and helping it grow. Unfortunately, it feels too disconnected. Trying to interact with the citizens only gives you the option to leave. When there is a matter to be discussed, it is never in person. Any visitor, dispute, or proposal is done through the comms system. It would be great to have citizens show up at the office with their complaints, to go to the town hall and see everyone voting on proposals. To attend farewell and welcome events for missions. It would be great to be able to use things like the dance hall. That was another thing, inconsistency. It had me build a dance hall but dancing was still banned. It would be nice instead of waiting for options f we could inact them. I would love to make the active choice as overseer to unban dancing and not just wait for that option. I’d also love to be able to live at the settlement. I would love to have a place of residence that I can modify and expand (like a freighter). Having to cheat by building a base on the outskirts and moving inwards isn’t as fun. Making settlements a lot more dynamic would be a ton of fun. Being able to allow friends to buy homes there would also be cool.
