NMS HOT POST

Curious, what is your best ship ?

I’ve seen a lot of ships in NMS, tore about 20 of them apart at a space station, and have a freighter full of interceptors from different galaxy’s. Would you all be so kind as to show us all your most unique ship ? Even if everyone has seen it before, and you think it’s cool, post it, please. I’d like to see the variations of ships if I could. Here is a small 20-second GIF video of my main interceptor.

Hello Travellers and Possibly Hello Games! I have a few suggestions I'd like Redditors opinions on!

Hello Travellers and Possibly Hello Games! I have a few suggestions I’d like opinions on!

⚠️WARNING: May contain spoilers!⚠️

I have a few suggestions I’d like to share, as well as some setting changes I’d like to see! I’m looking for opinions and not hate. If there’s something you don’t like. Tell me maturely please!

Customizable Ships/Walk-Through Ships:

  • Imagine a ship between the size of a ship and a frigate that you can fully customize and walk through.

  • Up to 4 players can attach/dock together with their “Shipgates,” allowing you to access each other’s ship seamlessly and walk around and build inside.

  • Each player can dock their own starship on their own “Shipgate” for easy access.

  • The ability to play mini arcade games with friends on the ship, such as games similar to Space Invaders, Space Racer, Xaind Saleena, Metroid Prime, Space Marshal’s, chess, or card games.

  • When pirates attack, players can pilot turret guns outside the ship for fun.

Co-Op:

  • The ability to build bases with friends where both players can register and build, even if one player is offline.

  • Each player has full ownership and control over the base.

  • Ability to add bases to a favorites list at the teleporter list.

  • A universal storage bin for group players to quickly share and use crafting materials if all players have ownership of the base.

  • Creating custom player factions that players can add friends to, with faction leaders controlling permissions for building and ranking, as well as custom-made faction badges.

  • 2-4 seater Exocraft where friends can hop in and be transported on planets.

  • Better icons and the ability to change the colors and size of co-op players for easier identification and location.

BUILDING:

  • Stairs/ramps for wood, alloy, and stone that can connect to the bottom part of extensions.

  • Implementation of a shrink/giant ray or edit option.

  • Water gun or above-ground water building attachments for creating giant pools or water-filled holes using the terrain manipulator.

OCEAN Factions/Boats/Ocean Ideas:

-Sea Pirate Reputation.

  • Addition of BOAT’S and Warship! (Warship=Ocean Freighter) buyable boats or crashed boats we can find on water planets that can either go above and slow water.

-Boat Modules that allow us to keep our boats under water longer, weapons modules, War Ship Modules.

  • Above water platforms that allow us to build from atop the water as if we were on land, adding new walls, doors, ports, docks, and decorations that relate to an ocean aesthetic.

  • With boats, I’d like and Exocraft Boat that all 4 players can ride together.

  • Fishing and the ability to catalog and save fish in homemade aquariums and for recipes.

  • Hoverboards/Sails for gliding over water.

  • “Moon Shoes” that can walk on the ocean floor and the surface of the water.

-Submarine “Frigates”

-Submarine “Squadrons”

ENEMY NPCs:

  • NPC enemy from each faction that are hologram, possibly holograms created by sentinels using data collected from each race in NMS.

  • NPC ocean pirates/sentinels/holograms that can attack you on the sea in boats.

-Underwater Sentinal/Pirate/Hologram NPCs that you have to fight off or summon your Submarine Squadron.

  • Ocean sentinel capital ships if your wanted level is up that come to attack you with a locator at the end.

  • Pirate ocean capital ships that we need to destroy to protect other factions also.

  • Introduction of flying monstrosities and small leech monstrosities that players need to shoulder bump off.

-Bio Engineered Enemies Like Monstrosities/Sentinels. Similar to the corrupted but now they have been corrupted by Bio animals.

SETTLEMENTS:

UTILIZE Settlements more!

  • Missions from settlements that lead you to find a crashed “Shipgate” or “Shipgate” parts, “Submarine Parts” etc.., as well as missions to find mini games, new songs, glass colors, decals for settlement/bases, and different types of bait, cooking ingredients and hunting mats to make recipes.

BASES:

  • Base trackers to see how many people have visited your base.

  • Mailboxes to leave messages to other players when visiting their base like own pals.

  • Real orbital base building components.

  • Base NPCs that walk around, interact with things, and talk with one another.

  • Ocean freighters that we can build inside. Similar to the Freighters we have now, except a giant War Ship

QUALITY OF LIFE SETTINGS:

  • Ability to change group color with various options.

  • Cursor setting for consoles, allowing movement via touchpad sensor.

  • East and west points on the top compass.

  • Toggle wheel option instead of D-Pad for easier access to specific options.

-D-Pad used for hotkeys instead

  • Increased FOV.

  • More than 3 custom character saves.

MISC:

  • New bio Alien ships with Alien features

  • Giant space bosses that we have to destroy that leads to Bio Alien Starships, Like the Sentinel ships!

  • More interaction options with pets.

  • Additional recipes to make food more viable, efficient, and fun.

  • Player-driven recipes and the ability to create new recipes.

  • Hunger or thirst meters &/OR..

-.. Parasitic Alien Virus’/ Illness caused by Fauna, Flora, Types of Exposure…this will give cooking and recipes a whole entire meaning. Of course people can opt out of this option in the settings. I think this would bring much more to the table of survival. It can even be a “No Man’s Sky Survival Expedition” or New Game Mode!!

  • Wings on the Aeron Turbo Jet to go down when not using Jetpack.

  • Current mission display when using the wheel.

  • Underwater mounts.

  • Gene splicing to create custom companions.

  • An updated egg sequencer with better descriptions.

  • Walking boosters for the Minatour exocraft.

  • More variety of fauna, flora, and minerals.

  • Increased presence of predators on land and in water.

  • Cool underwater storms that create whirlpools or lightning patches.

If we can add missions to get ship skins, customizable docking frigates, crashed boats, and the ability to customize ships with attachments and colors, it might solve people wanting customization and satisfy those who still want to ship hunt.

Bonus:

I’d also love to see a whole new underwater race, with new clothes and character customization, as well as a new “Fishing Rod Multitool” or “Trident Multitool” with different looks that can do extra damage to ocean pirates and NPCs. (I say bonus because I know we just got the new Autophage race with the Echos update, just a future idea!!)

*Also if anyone says “It’s a Space game not an “Ocean Game” I understand that. However No Man’s Sky has almost become more then that. We already have water building for under and above water. I don’t see why we couldn’t get something more implemented more when it comes to Water/Ocean “life”.

**Edit: I’d also like to add I know this isn’t an Official NMS page. If I do have a suggestion to send it to Zendesk or Hello Games UK email. Which I have.

NMS is a huge game that feels tiny.

I’ve recently upgraded my PC which allowed me to try this game for the first time. I remember it getting crucified upon launch but people said it got better over time.

So after spending about 100 hours in the game i can say it definitely ticks all the boxes, but the biggest issues it has are design based. Namely, even though this game is huge in every way it just feels small.

To explain my reasoning i’ll talk about another game i played a long time ago, that did the exact opposite, despite being comparatively small it made me feel like it’s huge.

It’s 2003 game called Freelancer. In the first mission, straight out of the gate, you are dumped in the New York System. As soon as you reach space there’s already 3 stations and the planet you spawned on, and despite intractability being limited by today’s standards this immediately gives you the sense of scope.

In the course of that mission you travel trough the asteroid field made of trash to planet Pittsburgh, which has completely different set of goods, ships and equipment from planet Manhattan. There’s a total of 2 planets, 2 shipyards, 4 stations and 2 outlaw bases in New York system alone, along with 4 asteroid fields. So the fact that you are stuck in the system for the first 2 missions is no issue at all, it just gives you the time to take it all in.

There’s a really nice early trade route from one of the stations that produces arms back to the planet Manhattan, but on the way you risk getting attacked by outlaws on both points. One could conceivably remain in the New York system indefinitely, mining, trading, hunting pirates. It’s far from the most optimal way to play but it is possible.

Compare that to NMS, a game that came out over a decade later. Only one station per system, which you are dropped on top of immediately upon entering, all the outposts on all the planets synced with the system wide network, making intra planetary trade impossible, and teleporter system making travelling between stations and your base utterly trivial.

Trading between stations is as easy as can be and involves no risk. All ships are perfectly able to carry as much goods as you can possibly gather, meaning no reason to pick a slow and bulky freighter that’s vulnerable to piracy. Not that it matters since you can just instantly teleport between stations in different systems so even if your ship can’t even move you just bypass that part all together.

This issues can be fixed however, all the ingredients are there, it’s just the recipe that’s rubbish.

I’ll say remove teleporters all together. I mean it, portals exist, so it’s not like there’s not a fast travel option between the systems. Unlike teleporters portal network is not trivial, you need to first find the portal, that’s the first hurdle, and then there’s the fact that portals are fixed, and can’t be moved, which means if you want to trade with a station or outpost you need to fly there, making you vulnerable to piracy.

And while we’re at it make prices local based rather than system based, and allow more than one station to exist within the system. Bonus points, localize resources more, have different biomes on the planets have more of one resource and less, or none, of the other. Then have outposts spawn near resource deposits and base prices on that, with resources they have locally being cheap, while those they don’t have being more expensive.

Same could be true of space stations, every space station will be near one planet or another, have prices on space stations depend on what they can get from the planet they are near.

Doing this would make every system feel a lot more vibrant and lively in itself, rather than just jumping from one station to the next and to your base. What’s the point of having this huge universe if there’s no reason to experience 99% of it.

Two Questions:

1st – Does anyone actually fly an Explorer? Is there a reason to flying an Explorer? I can see the merit to flying a Hauler, when you’re doing a trade route. You can pack a whole lot more commodities into its hull, making for greater profit. And, obviously, the Fighter lets you kill things faster.

As I understand it, the Exotics and Solars are basically improved Fighters, but are harder to find. And I presume Sentinel ships are similarly so. So, I can see good reason to fly a Fighter (or Fighter “variant”) frequently, given how often space battles happen.

But, is there a real benefit to using an Explorer? I get that they have a bonus to the distance they can warp, but… is that actually worth while? With a few mods, any other ship seems to get a pretty respectable distance, too. If I warp into a system and suddenly find myself in a battle that I want to take part in, can my Explorer still compete (assuming I’ve got adequate weapons and mods installed) or am I forced to find a space station, teleport home, swap ships, and then teleport back if I want to fight something… which, obviously, likely means the fight is over when I get back.

Or is the only purpose to flying an Explorer skipping systems and covering extensive distances quickly i.e. warp to furthest system, arriving, then immediately repeating the process x number of times, without stopping. What about the Freighter? I feel like a ship that size should have a hefty distance it can travel, but I’ve never fiddled with them much so I don’t know the extent of their warping capabilities.

2nd – Is there ANY other, more efficient way of farming Di-Hydrogen and/or Tritium? Or is manually grinding it for an hour the only method? Yes, I’m aware Di-Hydrogen can be crafted into Jelly and then crafted back into DH for a profit, but, considering the time it takes to do so, for the amount gained, I see grinding it a far more efficient method. Is there no collector that can be used to farm these two vital resources?
