NMS HOT POST 2021/10/11

Instead of a big content update, HG really should do a giant bug fix and quality of life update.


I appreciate how much HG has put into NMS, not that unpopular of an opinion. Though, one thing that still REALLY irks me with NMS is the bugs, and I wish they gotten fixed sooner. Not really much else to say here, but I'll suggest some big bug fixes and QOL features to be implemented.

  1. Planetary Zoology: This feature could be fun, but finding an underground creature is metaphorically impossible, and finding a third underwater creature is LITERALLY impossible. No kidding, there's a bug that prevents the third, fourth and so on underwater fauna from being spawned. Wouldn't hurt to tweak underground spawning to be less of waiting around twiddling your thumbs too.

  2. Exosuit mute: I beg of you, very specific situation, but when building an underwater base on an extreme cold planet, the exosuit NEVER shut up. It made me incredibly annoyed and stressed due to the sheer amount of times it said the same message over and over "Extreme temperature detected" "Extreme water temperature detected" "Thermal protection falling" "Extreme temperature detected" "Extreme cold damage detected" It fucks with me a lot.

  3. A big one, saving edited terrain: I don't know why HG can't do this, if its a limitation in code I completely understand, but I'm sure every interloper would love this change.

  4. Egg sequencer: Would it kill for the display to say what color it will be instead of "unstable"? very minor change but I love the egg sequencer.

  5. Rocket boots: THE MOST ANNOYING THING FOR ME BY FAR. When im trying to climb up something but the rocket boots just keep jumping up instead of satisfyingly rising up. Why can't they make it so rocket boots and only be initiated by ONLY double tapping? whenever you land and you're holding space, it makes you jump anyway!

Those are just some features I'd like to tweak, there are many minor bugs that I would like this update to be dedicated to, like floating on chairs for some reason? Anyway, please do put any suggestions in comments that I didn't even think about.

Havnt played since 2019 and man....

Living ships? – jfc I’m getting farscape flashbacks. The clock reset trick didn’t work so I’m.waiting 4 days for this damn quest. And reading a bit further you endn up getting a series of glyphs for the final part? I havnt even beat the main story yet?

Mounts? The hell did I miss? I couldn’t figure out why people had bubbles with a rocket pack on them like some mr bubbles meets predator meets Boba fett thing.

I can’t believe the differences that are in the game. Since when have there been giant dune-esque sand worms in the game? The goddamn thing was probably 3 times the width of my spaceship, and flipped me over, onky to see him go off into the distance.

And booiiiiiii if you saw my face when the first random ass anomaly showed up in flight. Not even the giant ass skulls, the weird ass other ones. One was a GIANT FUCKING BRAIN.

I FEEL LIKE A COMPLETE NOOB. But thats good. 10/10 will play again.

Archeology Overhaul Concept

-Introduction-

Archaeology in its current state is interesting, but feels like a bare-bones (pun intended) concept that could be expanded on. Implementing the following ideas would make archaeology a much more interesting and lucrative venture.

-New Ancient Ruins Models-

More model variation for explorable ruins would obviously make things more interesting. Locked doors requiring material charge or specific keys would also add to the intricacy of searching for artifacts. Behind these locked doors would be bonus loot. Having new cave and underwater ruins that can’t be discovered with planetary maps, only monoliths or random exploration. These ruins would have better odds of having an incredibly valuable artifact.

-Remove Visor Scan Indicators-

Getting rid of the indicators revealing the location of the underground keys and chest would require you to physically excavate the area to locate the keys. This would cause players to reveal more of the ruins’ structure instead of just digging tiny holes to the keys, making it feel more like true excavation. Making artifacts more valuable and adding random loot containers would make it worth the additional time spent digging.

-Planetary Archive Changes-

Planetary Archives become a player community hub for artifact collection. Instead of the artifact swap system currently in place, you would put the artifact into the device and it would be scanned and recorded and then can be taken back out to be sold like normal. A new option will be available at the computer terminal in the archive structure that allows you to view all artifacts uploaded into that specific archive as well as which “scientist” contributed the discovery. This would allow groups of friends to work together to gather a large collection of rare artifacts and anyone who visits the archive could view what was there, sort of like a museum. It would also be neat if you could store other “artifact” type items like salvaged scrap, ancient bones, and deep space oddities.

-Nanite Rewards-

Introduce a new NPC artifact collector that is located at any “Planetary Archive” point of interest that sell ruins maps and keys to unlock doors in ancient ruins to access bonus rewards. They would also buy artifacts for nanites, which can be done after uploading the data to the archive.

-Conclusion-

An archaeology overhaul would be a fun and interesting content update and would be relatively simple to implement into the game. “`

Are Nexus missions the only co-op activity that actually works?

My friend and I have been trying to play together, but it’s getting frustrating.

We tried fighting Sentinels on a Dissonant planet, but the waves never stopped after reaching Rank 5. I would be fighting a large walker and he sees me shooting at the ground towards nothing. We decided to run away to space to trigger a Capital ship, but one spawned for each of us that the other could not see.

I know multiplayer is buggy, but is there anything we can actually do together? Or are we all just cheerleaders in each others universe?
