Journey to the Center of the Galaxy - Conclusion

Day 1 – Unknown distance from the center of the galaxy

Awoke on a toxic planet.

Ship’s crashed, but I don’t remember how. I don’t remember much of anything before that last jump. Everything’s gone.

Well, not everything…

Previous Log Entries:

(I thought for sure I’d get bored and abandon this. But I got into it. The early part was especially fun strategizing how I’d maximize the hyperdrive with limited tech slots. That first freighter battle nearly did me in since I pulled all the shield and weapon upgrades for more hyperdrive upgrades.

Eventually, I started to feel some my my character’s obsession. I’d take a break to eat, intending to pick it up again the next day. But I’d feel the pull to log back in and start jumping again. I actually finished the journey a couple days ago. I’ve just been waiting a bit between posts.

I got really lucky on the ship. Fairly early on, I found an S class explorer at a space station. It had a large number of tech slots already unlocked. It had three super-charged slots in a row together and the fourth was two rows beneath. I was able to load up on S and X class hyperdrive upgrades fairly quick and got it up to 2500 light years and +350% efficiency. I wish I’d saved the system glyphs as it made the journey so much faster.

Some “interesting” stats about the journey:

  • Total jumps: 341
  • Total systems discovered: 339 (only the last two were not “First Contact”)
  • Total warp cells used: 105
  • On-Foot Exploration: 14,014 – This surprised me, I thought it would be lower. I reckon most of this was running around space stations.
  • Total freighter battles: 2 – And not one dreadnought battle. Another surprise. With all those jumps, I expected there to be more. I guess my play time on this save was too low for more. Most of the downed pirates were from a couple missions I did for flavor/variety and getting attacked flying to space stations.

Thank you to those that offered advice on how to make the journey faster. That wasn’t my goal with this journey, but this community has always been great about sharing tips and game info for new players (which I’m not, but I appreciate ya’ll anyway).

Anyway, I hope at least some of you enjoyed this. Thanks for riding along.)

Welcome to the new daily Q&A thread for NMSTG! You can now drop a question, provide answers or j...

Below are a few popular questions that we’ve received from our past FAQ thread. As always we ask that everyone be respectful and we welcome everyone’s contribution so have fun!

Q- I’m keen to start a new passive money making pursuit. What are some good ideas or guides post-Waypoint?

A#1-Gold farm, then take that stack and sell it at a terminal (not traders) in systems that sell gold. Sell all your gold to the terminal and crash the economy. Then buy it all back at 80% off discount. You just got free money and keep all the gold. All this takes is an initial investment on a gold farm, then you carry all that gold with you and just sell/buy back when you get to another system that sells gold. With 50 stacks in my ship’s cargo hold, I can make somewhere around 150 million units in each system I do this in.

A#2-Start a Farm, Fusion Igniters or Statis Devices Farm which will increase your profits to 100- 200 mil fairly quickly and you can even send out multiple freighter missions which will help you get aronium, magno-gold, Enriched carbon and more which will increase the profits even more.

A#3-Quickest way I’ve found to make a TON of units: Harvesting Storm Crystals. Find a VERY hot planet that has frequent fire storms. DURING STORMS ONLY – you can see the bright white light from Storm Crystals if you fly around low enough. Fly to them, land, quickly harvest them, get back in your ship and fly to the next before you burn up.

Q-How do I get the Advanced Mining Laser? I don’t have the option to craft one, and the multi-tool upgrade vendor at the space station doesn’t have the blueprint for sale.

A-In order to get it, you have to look for the blueprints in crashed ships or abandoned facilities. You get it from the main story (awakenings) or you can buy it on the anomaly.

Q-What do I actually do in the game? I finished the tutorial, is there anything else beside gathering stuff, building a base and repeat?

A#1-It’s really whatever you want, there’s a base story, (assuming you haven’t completed it already), follow the quest log and you’ll figure it out, but things You’d want to do for end game? You can collect multiple multitools, ships, built a fleet for your freighter, etc.

Q-Is there a planet that is populated by many players, and they built their base close to each others like a city?

A- Yeah its the Galactic Hub Project, Its a place where many people have bases and each day the numbers grow. Please help yourself. There are many factions in NMS that do this, even NMS Pirates Hub.

Q-I’m still pretty early into the game, just making my way to the center of the galaxy, what should I be spending my credits on?

A-Go hang around a outlaw/pirate trading post. Cheapest S-class start at around 8-8.5 million without a trade-in. I recommend Vikeen pirate, as then you have two good and 1 remote chances at high-maneuverability S-class: fighter, solar, exotic.

Useful Tip for escaping Sentinel ships

If you’re in space and want to escape sentinal interceptors without fighting them, and you’re past the anomaly part of the story, you can summon the anomaly and jump inside, and it will remove your wanted rating.

Space stations work too, but depending on how far away they are, it can be a pain with a disabled pulse drive.

I figured this one out a few weeks ago, and I use it all the time if I’m not in the mood for a prolonged sentinal space fight.

How did you make your first billion units?

I started playing this game last Christmas and it took awhile for me to get the hang of it. Eventually I found myself drawn to Gravitinos and started farming them exploring between harvests (mostly looking for silver). I learned base building this way and made my first billion units. I know making money isn’t the point of the game but it felt like an accomplishment for me and I was curious how everyone else made their first billion?
