How to deal with Sentinels

I apologize if this is a question asked a million times before and if I should delete the post just let me know where to ask my question. I searched and looked around and couldn’t find a proper place but reddit isn’t the best place to search things.

I am not a brand brand new player (around 80 hours) but still have a lot to go in a lot of things in the game. One thing that already puzzled me in my first playthrough and it’s doing so again is sentinels. The first time around I mostly just avoided anything that has to do with them but now I am trying to explore the game a bit more.

  • How do you deal with these things? If I get targeted by them I just get swarmed with endless waves and even if I manage to fly out to space the same thing repeats with interceptors until I slowly manage to make my way back to the space station. Is there any way to make the waves stop?

  • Sometimes they just stare at me but sometimes they go immediately aggro. What’s triggering them? I am not completely sure.

  • If they aggro me, should I not kill them to avoid reinforcements / stronger sentinels arriving me?

Thanks everyone!

Edit: Thanks everyone for the detailed and kind answers!! Safe travels

Cool thing that happened today

I play as a Space Pirate, and I take down freighters like no ones business (not a brag, just a really huge death toll in Outlaw Galaxys lol). I got a Freighter upgrade from one 2 days ago and I paid attention to the name of the Freighter I “salvaged” it from. Now here we are 2 days later, and I’m walking through the first hallway of a Derelict Freighter and sure enough, when I read the control board, it’s the exact same name of the Freighter I destroyed a few days ago and salvaged an upgrade from. What made it cooler was that the time stamp matched when I read the records further into the ship. It’s all these little tiny details that really make this game even more fun to play.

How to attract people to join my settlement?

After reading some posts here, I realized that planetary settlements are not a very useful thing, and that this is a saddle from which you will never get off, etc. However, I have a settlement, just for fun. They are easy and fun to manage them, in my mind. I’ve accidentally received a distress call a month ago, came there and defeated Sentinels then I became the overseer of a small Gek settlement C grade with huge debts and no necessary facilities…now it is an A grade settlement with 100% happiness of residents and very good productivity.

However, the number of settlers is growing very slowly. It was 35 on the start, it is 48 now and during this time happiness quadrupled, productivity increased almost five times. Why don’t NPC people want to join? I’m going to go to the nearest space station and organize a campaign “Everyone join my settlement, a personal house and the kind overseerr with a large amount of time online are waiting for you all”!

I’m kidding, of course. What am I doing wrong?
