Underground Base Build

Underground Base Build

Piscu-Duca Outpost, Euclid

Been wanting to post this base for eons. It’s my virtual pride and joy. Probably 5 years old so far (I seriously wish there was a way we could see how much time has been invested in a base). I don’t play nearly as often as I used to but random inspiration will strike out of the blue and I’ll lose 3 hours to adding new sections, areas, etc. I can’t imagine ever being finished. Oh! This base predates the new base parts. It was probably half the size when the parts were updated and if you look hard enough, I’m sure you could find a few of the old wooden pieces somewhere. As hard as I worked, I’m sure I missed a swap somewhere.

At my base you’ll find:

  • 8500+ part build
  • No glitch, though a fair amount of overlap
  • Over 60% underground and in preexisting caves
  • Base staff apartments (Scientist, Exocraft tech, and Weapons tech spaces are finished. Overseer’s spot isn’t. The botanist lives on my freighter, though he does have a carbon lab on base)
  • Hidden apartment accesses
  • “Secret” trophy room
  • Above ground Conservatory, access via underground pathing though
  • Underground farming
  • Underground Exocraft garage
  • 2 underground condos
  • Chill planet, though toxic, very green\grey, and otherwise pretty drab. Used to have ancient bones but the reset a few years ago took away that perk.
  • Nearly all wooden construction
  • Solar farm
  • And more…

Do pay me a visit and let me know what you think. I’m sure there’s another 8000 base parts worth of ideas left to be pulled out of this place.

Lesson learned…

Only swapped the multi tool before hitting the center of Euclid. Biggest oopsie I’ve made in gaming history, but that’s not the whole story. I was in my sentinel ship for the final jump… broke everything. Absolutely everything. And now I’ve gotta figur…

The one glaring omission this game sorely needs and would be super easy for HG to add...

… A ‘favourites’ tag for planets you want to ‘bookmark’ for return trips.

So far the only way I can feasibly mark a planet as a ‘favourite’ (or simply as a point of particular interest) is to either use a naming convention like ‘FAV_lava-planet’ when claiming it, or to place a base computer somewhere on that planet. Both methods technically work, but then I end up with a bunch of unused bases clogging up the teleporter UI.

Instead, why not add a ‘pin to favourites’ tag in the planet discoveries page?

Visit a planet you like, but don’t want to use clunky naming conventions or base computers? Just select the planet you want in the discoveries tab, and press the ‘add to favourites’ button. Then you can scroll over to the ‘favourites’ tab abd view all your most-loved planets in one convenient list, along with their teleport coordinates, or even the teleport shortcut for the nearest space station.

Perma-death players -- What is the appeal of this game mode?

This is an earnest question, not a jab. I’m genuinely curious to hear from perma-death players.

I’m a veteran player with 566 hours on record (currently playing on Survival mode), and to me at least, perma-death doesn’t sound like the kind of added challenge that enhances the player experience in any meaningful way. All it does is massively raise the stakes of failure, like performing skateboard stunts without protective gear. (Except that the bad outcome in this case is just extreme frustration rather than brain damage.)

Is it a completionist thing? I can sort of understand that: I’m at 25/27 Steam achievements myself, and getting to the center of the galaxy on perma-death mode is one of my two missing achievements. Only 0.7% of NMS players have done it, so if you have, I guess congratulations are in order.
