Cooking needs an upgrade

I’ve been playing Breath of the Wild lately (maybe I’ll actually finish it this time) and noticing how much more rewarding it is to gather ingredients and experiment with different recipes for cooking. The buffs you get just make it so much more worth the effort. In No Man’s Sky, out of hundreds of recipes, there are only really a handful of “buffs”. Most of them just replenish small amounts of hazard protection or life support, something which you can do easily and with better results without cooking. And don’t even get me started on how ridiculous Cronus is.

It’s clear that Hello Games put a lot of work into this feature so I think a proper upgrade to make it more worthwhile is in order. Here are some examples of various temporary buffs that can be added to cooking recipes:

Immunity to various hazards, with different recipes for each hazard type and varying durations.

Reduce the rate of stamina, hazard protection, jetpack, or life support depletion

Sentinels ignore you

predators ignore you

Increase mining beam yields

Increase total health/shield

Increase the chance of rare fauna spawning when dropped on the ground

Increase movement speed

Add your ideas in the comments

In addition to new buffs from consuming recipes and feeding fauna, we should be able to grow edible plants and raise noncompanion livestock in our bases. Some recipes might be a bit OP if we can just grow the ingredients so they might require rare ingredients that we need to go hunting for or take a high risk to obtain. But in general, adding new buffs and letting us grow more ingredients would, in my opinion, make cooking a more worthwhile endeavor in No Man’s Sky. What do you guys think?

PSA: "Omega" does not necessarily mean "the end". Don't assume anything about th...

This seems to come up in every thread about Expedition 12: Omega, the upcoming expedition and update that is currently in beta for PC players who want to test it out. Streamers have little else to do but speculate and spoil, so perhaps some of the anxiety comes from watching them, too.

There are separate teams for Hello Games projects. This happened with The Last Campfire – NMS continued to be updated both during its development and after its release. There’s no reason to think Light No Fire, despite being visually and possibly plot-wise more connected to NMS, is going to “take away” from NMS development and updates. “Omega” has meanings other than “the end” – the symbol is used in many ways in science and math. And does anything ever really end in No Man’s Sky, anyway?

Honestly, I don’t think anything other than the announcement of a direct sequel to NMS would be reason to be worried. But in that case, we’d be looking forward to a whole new chapter in the same universe anyway!

Since we know you are watching: Thank you Sean and Hello games for taking in our feedback.

Seriously, this is the most riled up this community has been since launch, and not even a week later everyone’s concerns have been addressed, even those of the minority who thought we’d have no hope now have solutions to the difficulty problem with save locking. We don’t deserve you hello games.

Reactor Mods on Derelicts

Reactor Mods on Derelicts

The first time I ran this Derelict Freighter it gave me a C Class Reactor for a starship.

Yes, apparently, Derelicts now do this.

Given the fixed nature of the tech on Derelicts, you’d expect this to correlate the also, right?

No, on this run I discovered the Derelict was in actual fact a B Class.

Derelicts can give Reactors of any Class, don’t get fooled by this please 🙏😊
