I made it to my first space station!

Can you change the default ship?

Can you change the default ship?

So every time I scrap a ship at a space station it calls in my gold one to replace it even though I never use it. Is there a setting I missed? It’s probably something easy right in front of my face. I’ve been meaning to ask this for ages.

It wastes time because instead of being able to launch back into the system from the station and continue, I end up teleporting to my freighter, grabbing my normal ship and then going on with what I was doing.

And yes I know that I could fly my gold ship to a planet, land and summon my other ship but my gold ship is purely for pleasure, it’s barely equipped so it couldn’t even defend itself. But I shouldn’t have to do all that right? All of you can’t be doing that all the time.

So, is there a way to change what ship auto-generates after scrapping? I even tried renaming my normal ship so that it was first alphabetically and that still didn’t work. Thanks.

I really HATE how the space battle system works. You're always the enemy no matter what

New player here that started a week ago. Today I warped into another system and a freighter fleet was being attacked by pirates. Ok, I’ll be your savior! Almost die in a firefight with SEVEN enemies, and what happens at the end? “Civilian fleet engaged. sentinels on route” um what? I just SAVED YOU from the pirates trying to kill you, and your thanks is… Sicking these damn robots on me? Let me guess why… A stray laser hit your shield while I was barrel rolling in 19 different directions fending off these pirates… FOR FREE! I didn’t last much longer being out of fuel and 15% shield left, but I’m sure those very nice traders made good use of my scrap metal from my ship.

Yeah, it’s a hard pass from me, from now on, yall enjoy being a smoldering wreck on the ground.

This game became so much more enjoyable once I stopped trying to achieve efficiency above all else

A bit of a vague title, but the truth nonetheless. I got in to No Man’s Sky somewhat late; a couple of expansions dropped, the tide already turned. No Man’s Sky was seen as a decent game, lots was achieved after launch.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun! The first couple of hours were mesmerizing, and I was excited to see what was to come. Fast forward about 50-60 hours, and I was already kind of done with the game. I was earning millions of units with an Activated Indium farm, something that was recommended to me by the many YouTube ‘guide’ videos surrounding this game. I had reloaded a Freighter battle almost 50 times and achieved a Capital S-Class Freighter. I had a massive farm that I used for nanites. I was maxing out my inventory and I finished building somewhat of a base.

Now what? That was the question I had, and it never really went away. Somehow I felt as if I didn’t really ‘complete’ the game, but I also no longer had a goal to work towards. I was earning an absurd amount of units, with nothing to really spend it on. I no longer had any motivation to engage in the vast majority of the systems the game had laid out, because why would I? The rewards gained from exploration were not worth it, I wouldn’t gain anything from it.

I briefly played on both a hardcore and a permadeath save, but after getting the associated achievements, I realized that the changes these game modes provided were not the changes I was looking for. If anything, they seemed detrimental somehow; on top of not having a goal once I set up a few farms somewhere, I now also had to fight a limited inventory system for naught but a level of tedium. If this was No Man’s Sky but difficult, I realized that I did not desire ‘difficulty’ in this game.

I stopped having fun, so I stopped playing.

Then, some time later, I realized that I messed up. I realized that No Man’s Sky, for all of its faults, is not meant to be min/maxed, at least, not for me. I hopped into the game again, determined to go against what I normally do in games like these. This time, I did not rush any sort of farm for mass units and nanites. I did not hop around systems to find the perfect S-Class Freighter. I did not look up any ship catalogues, or teleporter coordinates for valuable exotics or multi-tools. I even started roleplaying my traveler a little bit.

Man, what a world of difference. Suddenly, I find myself having something to work towards constantly. No longer do I skip over 90% of the content in the game because it’s ‘not valuable enough’. I get excited when I find a cool treasure that’s worth a lot of units, or when I find a crashed freighter somewhere. It’s fun to scour planets and systems alike for valuable targets, resources, and settlements.

This might sound totally obvious to a lot of you, but I can’t begin to tell you the epiphany I had when I started playing the game like this. This is what No Man’s Sky is meant to be. It’s not a space economy simulator, it’s a space exploration game. And though that is apparent everywhere in the game, it somehow took me over a year to realize that.

So to all of you who got bored with the game due to a lack of goals, or because making money/nanites etc. is ‘too easy’, try a different approach. Maybe you shouldn’t go for an Activated Indium farm. Maybe it’s best to delete that generous gift from some player in the Anomaly that’s worth millions upon millions. I’ve learned that when I try to game No Man’s Sky, I simply end up gaming myself out of tens, if not hundreds of hours of fun.

See you Space Cowboys…

Looking to join a Civilization

Hi, I’m trying to find the right civilized space community and I’m struggling to find one with all the multitudes of different factions, alliances, etc.

My main obsession with the game is actually crafting and industrial mining (using extractors), and I already have a ginormous collection of bases myself that allow me, well, to have more or less infinite money and stuff in single player mode. I would also enjoy any type of online socializing and base-building. Any ideas? I’ve tried a few colonies and communities, but I haven’t really found myself in any of them, yet.

Many thanks and clear skies,

SP

Underground Base Build

Underground Base Build

Piscu-Duca Outpost, Euclid

Been wanting to post this base for eons. It’s my virtual pride and joy. Probably 5 years old so far (I seriously wish there was a way we could see how much time has been invested in a base). I don’t play nearly as often as I used to but random inspiration will strike out of the blue and I’ll lose 3 hours to adding new sections, areas, etc. I can’t imagine ever being finished. Oh! This base predates the new base parts. It was probably half the size when the parts were updated and if you look hard enough, I’m sure you could find a few of the old wooden pieces somewhere. As hard as I worked, I’m sure I missed a swap somewhere.

At my base you’ll find:

  • 8500+ part build
  • No glitch, though a fair amount of overlap
  • Over 60% underground and in preexisting caves
  • Base staff apartments (Scientist, Exocraft tech, and Weapons tech spaces are finished. Overseer’s spot isn’t. The botanist lives on my freighter, though he does have a carbon lab on base)
  • Hidden apartment accesses
  • “Secret” trophy room
  • Above ground Conservatory, access via underground pathing though
  • Underground farming
  • Underground Exocraft garage
  • 2 underground condos
  • Chill planet, though toxic, very green\grey, and otherwise pretty drab. Used to have ancient bones but the reset a few years ago took away that perk.
  • Nearly all wooden construction
  • Solar farm
  • And more…

Do pay me a visit and let me know what you think. I’m sure there’s another 8000 base parts worth of ideas left to be pulled out of this place.
