NMS HOT POST

my opinion on the update

I’ve played the game for at least 5 years now and have followed it activly ever since next.
I adore its lore, the worlds you can find, the mysteries you can uncover.

I was disappointed at first, just seeing an expedition, some random new ship and a some sort of overhaul of the recording system. Was that all?, i thought.

But I came to the conclusion that this is a lot when we look at the whole picture.

This is no AAA company with many employees, these people managed to pull of a switch port and a vr overhaul in a short amount of time, so getting anything beyond a vr update, much less an entire expedion and new items for the shop it seems…that is impressive.

I do hope now that only the apple port is left that they can focus on content again, on lore and maybe work on the custimisation of my beloved Korvax…but I am still very grateful what we received.

So please…don’t speak too ill of them, i believe they are trying very hard.
(I could do with less grass rewards in the store though XD )

For those complaining the last 2 updates were lackluster

Let’s have a little more tact.

  1. There’s nothing wrong with expressing wishes and desires
  2. Those complaining obviously still love the game, and aren’t hating on it as a whole
  3. We can communicate more graciously.

HG definitely reads this sub. We know that. NMS came out 6.5 years ago. We paid $60 brand new. I bet a lot of people got it on sale, but let’s just say we paid full price. How many other games, ever, release major content updates for free, no subscriptions, no egregious micro-transactions, and as regularly (despite never committing to a schedule (also note how they’re never late to this non schedule))? Pretty much 0. None that I can think of.

Quick analogy of how I view our current situation:

Let’s say I give a customer a quote on building them a house. It’ll be $600,000 and have all these cool features. When I finish building it’s very obvious it went poorly. There was even a flood halfway through and the foundation had to be re poured. The customer is unhappy, but in good faith I show up a few months later and say “I’m going to redo some rooms and add a couple of things. No charge.”

A few months later I come back again, “New appliances, new windows and a garage! No charge”

And again…. and again…

A few years go by, and now I’ve far exceed the time and effort originally billed. The $600,000 budget for the home build has been more than spent. Yes, a lot of that was scrapped, but even the finished product is now worth more than $600,000.

A few months later, though, “I created a virtual reality experience of your home so you can enjoy it however you want. No charge”.

And a few months later, I come back again “I made some additions to your neighbors house, same as here. No charge”

Fast forward to this last year…. I come back a couple times and say “Some of the stuff I added isn’t quite up to my expectations. I know you’ve gotten used to me adding new cool gadgets when I show up, but before I add more I need to add some supports to the floor, add a wheelchair ramp out front, fresh coat of paint on some of those rooms I worked in a lot as I might have dinged up the walls a little in the overhaul process. No charge”.

Now I want you to put yourself in the homeowner’s shoes and imagine yourself saying “You should have brought me that entertainment system! The 8k projector with 15.1 surround sound and haptic butt-cheek feedback to embed in all my couch cushions!”

It’s kinda crazy… Let’s be honest. We’ve paid for the product, we have more than what we paid for, there is no agreement or statement of intent other than “I’ll be back with more”. At this point we have no right to have **expectations**. (elephant in the room here is there are still some things not in today’s product that were originally promised. I think that ship has sailed, and we’ve received a lot more of something different. The game took a different path, so let’s just leave it at that)

But don’t confuse that with **desires** or **wishes**.

We could say “Next time he comes back to add to the house it would be cool if we got that new entertainment system!”

We shouldn’t say “Next time he comes back to add to the house he should bring that new entertainment system!”

TL;DR

This post may seem superfluous but I think we forget to have perspective on things. Simple phrasing can change a person’s entire mood for a day, or a week. Imagine HG coming to read this sub and all they see are “WTF, why aren’t we getting ACTUAL content?” after they’ve worked so hard? That doesn’t make them feel good or motivated to continue when they could justifiably say “This is the last update. Later doods”. What would make them feel good is us being thankful while also daydreaming about future content. Seeing your playerbase riff off your game with new ideas is very motivating for creators. 🙂

So let’s continue to share what we hope to see, but let’s do it with tact and be gracious for what we’re continuing to get for free.

Novice tips to S Class multitool hunting

Novice tips to S Class multitool hunting

Hello, I’ve made a few post of the past weeks with 8-10 multitools (MTs) that I’ve found recently over the past year. I’ve been hunting tools since launch and thankfully ish that it has gotten a lot easier.

This seems like common since, but I had several questions arise, so I thought an update may be useful to some newbies.

Tools are pooled at the system/space station (SS) level and planetary levels. In general the SS level usually carries the dominate tool from each planet. You can see this by landing on each planet in the system and reloading your save. Then fly back to the SS and you’ll see a different tool, this tool will be the dominate tool for that planet in most cases.

  1. Decide on your hunting method
    1. duplicating inhabitable outpost (IOs) maps
      1. whatever method you use to dup
    2. trading navigation data (ND) for maps
      1. trade NDs for inhabited outpost (IOs) maps and maybe a few ancient artifact maps
      2. go to a couple wealthy systems and visit a planet
      3. use 6 or so maps to load up the HUD with the NPC buildings, there should be one minor settlement.
      4. check the minor settlement (MS) to see if it sells nd, if not use another map until the next minor settlement shows up, rinse and repeat. Once the NDs are found place a base computer down with a base name that makes sense to you. I use xxx NavData where xxx is the quantity sold at the minor settlement. repeat this in at least 1 other wealth system. This way you have access to a few hundred NDs.
      5. take any opportunity to gather more NDs, little cubes laying around space stations and minor settlements.
    3. designate a ship as your hunting ship with a good MT
      1. you will want, good shields, warp capable (long distances not required), decent weapons
      2. keep only the basic necessities in your ship, no materials that may attract the attention of system authorities / pirates. Otherwise they will pester/distract you from the goal
      3. take any opportunity to gather more nds, little cubes laying around space stations and minor settlements.
      4. good multitool is helpful for the planets with aggressive sentinels but when I’m hunting I avoid any entanglement the distracts me from the MT Hunt.
    4. MT Hunting (when starting out)
      1. Warp to a system go to SS and check MT class, if it’s not A class then move to next system. I only say this for newbies, you can hunt MTs in SSs with B & C’s but has the class goes down it can get more complex hunting for an S class on the planets.
      2. When the A class is found reload a save on each planet and check the SS for the dominate MT. Note: generally it will not show the 2ndary MT on the planet. The 2ndary MT is the MT that shows up in cabinet once you reload your save either at the planet you are on or other planet in the system or space station.
      3. If you have checked all the dominate tools for each planet and if non of them are what you are looking for then you can bail on that system. However, you may want to find the dominate tool on each planet even if it’s not the style you want to find. The 2ndary tools can be the alien, experimental and/or anomalous MTs. This all about your tolerance for the repetitiveness and time.

So I think that is probably a good start for those that are new to NMS. I’m sure many will chime in with additional tips/tricks to help out.

These are all the S classes I’ve found in the past year or so.

I have to blow the bloody doors off every day. Would you?

I have to blow the bloody doors off every day. Would you?

Last week, I found two nice hotspots and a power hotspot near a factory. This week I finally got round to putting in a base. I set up the generators and extractors first, then I needed to create something to shelter in while visiting this cold planet. I didn’t have time for anything complicated or fancy and sometimes you just want a simple base you can visit to collect the resources, but I also didn’t want to drop a prefab or crude shack. Then I realised that, because the dioxite resource was right beside the factory, I had another option…

Well, this is cosy

And this looks cool

I was happy with this solution; it saved time, is very cosy in there, and I liked the idea of a base with its own sentinel guard unit. It was only after placing the nomad dock and stepping back to admire the scene that I remembered something important; that door is going to regenerate. Most times I visited, I’d have to blast my way out and either have a fight or hide. Now, sometimes a ready-made sentinel fight would be just what I was looking for, but more often it wouldn’t (and the alarm noise is annoying).

Then I had another idea…

Adding a 6 next to the factory’s 5 was an unexpected bonus joke

Now I don’t have to go outside at all. if I just pop in for the resources, I just grab them and go. Now I have a sneaky base, guarded by sentinels, and nobody need know I’m there. Well, except for the dock and landing pad right outside.

There is a lake in front of the factory…

A lake with possibilities

It’s close enough and deep enough to hide the other end of a short-range teleport hop, a landing pad, a roamer dock and any other little thing I might want to add. It would be even more super secret and I’d still have the option of breaking out for a fight when I wanted to. The problem is “any other little thing I might want to add”; when I devote any kind of attention to a base, I often go a bit over the top. I’m showing some discipline for once – I really do have other things to be doing – but this is going to niggle at the back of my mind for some time. So I thought I’d ask: what would you do?

A guy I met brings me to a base he has next to an S Class Start ship, and something on his base hit me with some heat laser shit and I started dying over and over and I lost all of my inventory lmao I’ve recently learned about how lots of players can have crazy stuff on them and there is a lesson about who to trust when going into their base, these guys make Indiana Jones trap type shit lol
