NMS HOT POST 2024/01/29

A character from the main story might return in a future update… (spoilers)

I’m just gonna jump to the point, I think Null is coming back soon. Not only do I think they’ll come back, but I think they’ll be an antagonist.

The past few updates have really been pointing towards the Void Mother/Abyss/Korvax Prime as the main villain. That’s what I’ve believed for a while. A while back I saw a Reddit comment saying that Null will probably be the main villain, and I laughed at the time. Now I realize they might be partially correct.

When the player reset the universe at the end of the main story, everyone in the universe outside of the ones in the Anomaly were presumably sent to the World of Glass, including Null. Everyone who was archived was replaced by new characters just like them who populate the new universe. The Void Mother resides in the World of Glass, so her and Null likely crossed paths. If the player did not reset the universe, then maybe Null purposely died so he could assist the Void Mother with her plan after being told of it.

Null and the Void Mother have a few things in common. Their lives were ended early, they resent the Atlas, and, most importantly, they don’t want to die again.

The Void Mother wants to recreate the Creator to presumably make it to the 19th minute. Null has already consumed many Traveller souls, making him the most “complete” of all the Travelers. This makes Null the perfect candidate to recreate the Creator. The Void Mother is likely feeding Traveler souls to Null, which is supported by Laylaps saying that the Telamons are bringing the Travelers to the Void Mother in the Sentinel Pillar logs.

The World of Glass is bleeding into the main universe, causing things from that realm to enter ours. This is how the Autophage ended up in the main universe. As the universes slowly merge together as the Atlas further degrades, which means that all of the Travelers will be in one place. This would allow Null to come back and consume all of their souls, recreating the Creator, and thus, achieving incredible power. Null would become the third most powerful entity in the universe, third to the Atlas and the Void Mother. Also, the Atlas has said that the Creator shows up at the very end of its life, and it does not know what will happen next. This might not be referring to the literal Creator, but a combination of all of the Traveler souls using Null as a base. When Null is the Creator, they’ll finally be able to get back at the Atlas for not caring about them, by outliving them along with everyone on the Void Mother’s side.

This is a really crazy theory, but I think that Null would make for an amazing villain. I also think that having a personified villain is much better than the background force behind the scenes that is the Void Mother being the main villain. Maybe this will all be hinted at in the next update, but I think a plot line like this would be saved for a massive new story the size of the main one. Possibly for a summer update.

NMS Q&A thread! Ask questions, provide answers or just submit a tip. We hope this helps our valu...

This post will be refreshed every few days. The old post are still available for answering questions in those post.

Below are a few popular questions that we’ve received from our past FAQ thread. As always we ask that everyone be respectful and we welcome everyone’s contribution so have fun!

Q- I’m keen to start a new passive money making pursuit. What are some good ideas or guides post-Waypoint?

A#1- Gold farm, then take that stack and sell it at a terminal (not traders) in systems that sell gold. Sell all your gold to the terminal and crash the economy. Then buy it all back at 80% off discount. You just got free money and keep all the gold. All this takes is an initial investment on a gold farm, then you carry all that gold with you and just sell/buy back when you get to another system that sells gold. With 50 stacks in my ship’s cargo hold, I can make somewhere around 150 million units in each system I do this in.

A#2- Start a Farm, Fusion Igniters or Statis Devices Farm which will increase your profits to 100- 200 mil fairly quickly and you can even send out multiple freighter missions which will help you get aronium, magno-gold, Enriched carbon and more which will increase the profits even more.

A#3- Quickest way I’ve found to make a TON of units: Harvesting Storm Crystals. Find a VERY hot planet that has frequent fire storms. DURING STORMS ONLY – you can see the bright white light from Storm Crystals if you fly around low enough. Fly to them, land, quickly harvest them, get back in your ship and fly to the next before you burn up. Q-Where can I post ships and other cool stuff that I want to share with the public? A-You can always post on this sub and now the NMSGlyphExchange is live! Q-How do I get the Advanced Mining Laser? I don’t have the option to craft one, and the multi-tool upgrade vendor at the space station doesn’t have the blueprint for sale.

A- In order to get it, you have to look for the blueprints in crashed ships or abandoned facilities. You get it from the main story (awakenings) or you can buy it on the anomaly.

Q-What do I actually do in the game? I finished the tutorial, is there anything else beside gathering stuff, building a base and repeat?

A#1- It’s really whatever you want, there’s a base story, (assuming you haven’t completed it already), follow the quest log and you’ll figure it out, but things You’d want to do for end game? You can collect multiple multitools, ships, built a fleet for your freighter, etc.

Q- Is there a planet that is populated by many players, and they built their base close to each others like a city?

A- Yeah its the Galactic Hub Project, Its a place where many people have bases and each day the numbers grow. Please help yourself. There are many factions in NMS that do this, even NMS Pirates Hub.

Q- I’m still pretty early into the game, just making my way to the center of the galaxy, what should I be spending my credits on?

A- Go hang around a outlaw/pirate trading post. Cheapest S-class start at around 8-8.5 million without a trade-in. I recommend Vykeen pirate, as then you have two good and 1 remote chances at high-maneuverability S-class: fighter, solar, exotic.

I know people will hate me for saying this, but allmost all animals in this game are absolutely poin...

I know infinite possibilities etc. but what’s the point to these animals gameplay wise? Most of them aren’t hostile and even if you kill them they don’t drop anything super usefull. It only upsets some nearby sentinels which can result in some battles but the creatures themselves don’t pose any challange or real threat. Hell even the plant’s managed to kill me by surprise since they sometimes blend in with the surrounding, which is more than the animals do. Food wise they aren’t as important since food isn’t necessary, even in survival mode which is an odd choice.

Also like 90% of these animals are not really aesthetically pleasing. Some of them look goofy and even made me laugh but there was never a “wow I need this thing as a pet” moment. The movements and animal “type” sometimes doesn’t even match the environment. Like swimming on land, or bulky cow like creatures with hooves living in the water. It just kills the imersion for me. Most of them are also either gray or a shade of brown, rarely do I find something with vibrand colours. They also get very repetitive.

My most hated animal type is the flying “turd”. I have found many great planets I wanted to settle on and then I saw these snakey flying brown turds over the horizon and I immediately left.

My biggest disappointment however are the Sandworms. I didn’t know these things where in the game and I encountered my first one on a very eerie infested red planet. I almost shat myself when that thing plowed through the surface next to me. I noped out in hoorror thinking that finally there is something I can be scared of in this game. But later I learned they are just for show. And this made me mad, because I love the concept and the Idea of a giant animal like this. But there is no interaction with it. You can’t scan them, they don’t take damage, they don’t attac you or any structures or make any impact on their surroundings. Like why? What’s the point?

The fauna of this game desperatly needs an overhaul in both design and funktionality. I know this comparison is not something people here want to hear, but this game would benifit from a “starbound like” fauna design. Not meaning it should work the same way, but making liveforms more threatening, fit in more with the biomes and give them even more design variety. Animals like massive wooly mamals on frozen planets, or more “rocky” and protective designs on super hot planets. Animals that spit acid and drop materials accordingly. Imagine beeing able to harvest wooly animals and create star silk on your own or something like that.

NMS is like a warm mug of coffee on a Winter's morning

I guess you could say I’m an OG NMS player. I had preordered the game, as it was one of my most hyped games back in the day. Like most people who played on release, I was a bit confused and underwhelmed upon first booting up the game; it was nothing like the pre-release footage (I know, old news at this point). Even still, I clocked in around 50 hours, as I was able to find some enjoyment in its simplicity, and could see potential in it (and perhaps I hoped to discover more depth hidden somewhere).

After those initial 50 hours, I uninstalled and didn’t touch it again until the Pathfinder update. I messed around a little, liking the improvements, but ultimately moved on again after about 10 hours. It wasn’t until the Next update that I tried again, and this is where I really started to see some of that initial potential shining through.

All of this is to say, I am just now coming back to the game all these years later. It is absolutely astonishing how much this game has evolved. I started a new save, wanting to experience the game how we all wish it had launched, and I’m loving it. HG have added SO MUCH to this game, it’s honestly a bit overwhelming. Playing NMS today vs the launch version is one hell of a trip, let me tell you. The ability to make bases ANYWHERE you want, and the massive amount of base customization now compared to Foundation…the new planet types…the fact there are now actual deep oceans, and you can even build underwater…the improved cave systems…the look & feel of space, and the improved combat depth…the vehicles and mechs…the improved land combat and sentinels…the new fauna types…the expanded crafting…there is just SO. MUCH.

I honestly don’t even know the point of this post, other than to say this game always has had a special place in my heart, and playing it in its current form is one hell of a ride. This is one of those games I’ll probably never uninstall again. I can’t even put a finger on why I love this game so much…there’s just something…special about it. It gives me a inexplicable feeling when I play it. It’s like a warm mug of coffee on a Winter’s morning.

Thanks, Hello Games. You did right by us players. I can’t wait to see where you take NMS next.

Anyway, sorry for the long-winded post, and thanks for reading!

Just got back into NMS

I can’t believe how much they worked on this, what a true gem. I’ve been playing non stop for days now. I’m sitting at work thinking, “finish work, hit the gym and hop on NMS.” XD

Build settlements?? I haven’t even started reading into this. You can cook?? I’m overwhelmed and astonished by how much they added… I bet I’ve barely scratched the surface so far.

I discovered a water planet with these giant worms and was so amazed I didn’t realize I was yelling, “holy shit!!! WHAT THE FUUUUCK.” My wife thought something was wrong or bad had happened… haha

Any other players who just recently returned to NMS after years? I’d love to team up and explore together.

My First Base - stop by!

I have built some shacks here and there, but this is my first time really getting into the details. I wanted to get the feel of an old outpost turned storage yard. Found this planet while on the hunt for my first living ship and thought I’d settl…
