NMS HOT POST

Wanting to give this another whirl. What can I do to avoid the problems I had last time?

I’ve played NMS a few times since it was released. The first couple of times I bounced off of it (both were fairly early in its history.) The last time I was really, really enjoying it – except grinding for fuel.

*Note: You’ll have to forgive me not remembering all of the specifics or getting a few details wrong. It’s been a couple of years.

Every time I got on I’d end up spending 2/3 of my available time just farming frigate fuel. It ended up killing the game for me – I wanted to explore, to build, to send out missions, but all I ever got to do was either stand there and mine or run from trade terminal to trade terminal. It took most of my free time and sucked all of the fun out of it.

I’ve seen a few cheesy tricks to bypass it, but I really don’t want to resort to silly, anti-immersive cheese (like constantly building and tearing down mini-bases.)

I’d really like to come give this thing another shot, and maybe even get to the center this time – but I want to see if there’s a way I can avoid running into the same problem again.

I need someone to come kill me

So… I’m stuck in the floor.

I was doing some base building on my freighter. I had a hallway that turned left, and I was standing in the corner of the left turn. I went to delete the hallway and in doing so, also deleted the corner I was in. I fell beneath the floor.

I’m still standing, though. So I can move around albeit within the space of one hallway. I’ve tried almost everything to get out. There are no gaps to jump or fall through, building a short-range teleporter doesn’t work, saving and reloading is no good. I’m completely stumped. My last hope is that someone can try to come kill me.

I’ll post screenshots of my coordinates in the comments.

To my future hitman, I thank you.

EDIT: I’m out!! Thank you u/Gravnaut

Faecium mine in Calypso: don't just take random crap from anyone (Calypso)

Faecium mine in Calypso: don't just take random crap from anyone (Calypso)

Get your sh*t together

Announcing the Anomalous Acres Faecium Mine

Need faecium? Of course you do! But why gather it in the field like some animal, or waste time building a farm? You don’t have time for that sh*t because you’ve got sh*t to do.

We are in some serious sh*t

Our faecium mine is full of sh*t and our sump pumps work 24×7 to make sure it stays that way. Over $1.9 million units worth, every 48 hours, this sh*t will make you rich.

Note that there aren’t separate networks here: it’s just one big pile of sh*t.

Can you believe this sh*t?

Located on a storm-free marsh planet in Calypso. Normal mode.

WARNING: This planet has aggressive sentinels in normal mode (they take their sh*t seriously), so come in, collect your sh*t, and get out.

The mine is high enough that this isn’t a problem as long as you don’t linger, but for people who just don’t want to take that sh*t there’s a save beacon and a comm ball at a nearby sentinel pillar (which is, itself, next to a trading post, so you can unload your sh*t as needed).

We will give you sh*t

As a worldbuilding nerd, this game's lore is beyond brilliant. (Spoilers)

Title. I just beat the main story, and as a cosmic horror fan I absolutely love how the devs took a game with no story and turned it into a lovecraftian meta-commentary on the game’s development cycle. The way I interpret it each update that gets implemented is a canon event in which the Atlas introduces a new element into it’s universe, bringing us further along the sixteen minutes. This also heavily implies that the sixteen minutes will only end when the game stops being developed and updated. It’s wild how such a simple premise has been transformed into this introspective, existentialist story that left me with that same bittersweet feeling other of my favourite media gives me.

Bravo, hello games.

And I’m so sorry Artemis ;_;
